BCPS Middle School Students Participate in Rally to the Tally for New Floridians

It’s set to be an exciting week for 200 Broward County Public Schools middle school students who are English Language Learners, as they prepare to participate in Rally to the Tally for New Floridians. The annual four-day field trip to Tallahassee takes place Tuesday, April 16 – Friday, April 19.

During the trip, students from 14 middle schools will visit local cultural museums, the State Capital, the Senate, the House of Representatives and the Florida Supreme Court.  In addition to learning about the legislative process, the students will participate in a mock election and engage in debates about current issues and policies. The students will have opportunities to meet with legislators and judges as they learn about American cultural values placed on education and community involvement.

Media interested in covering the students’ departure for the Rally to the Tally for New Floridians should meet at Silver Trail Middle School (18300 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33331) on Tuesday, April 16. Students and chaperones from the school will arrive at approximately 6 a.m. The buses are scheduled to depart at approximately 6:30 a.m.

The Rally to the Tally for New Floridians is organized in collaboration with the Close Up Foundation, Washington, DC and BCPS Bilingual/ESOL Department.
