BCPS School Board Members, Interim Superintendent and Staff Welcome Students and Families Back to School for the 2021/22 School Year
August 18, 2021
Today, Wednesday August 18, 2021, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) welcomed students, families and staff back to class for 100% face-to-face learning in the 2021/22 school year.
Throughout the first day of school, School Board members, BCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright, District administrators and staff visited students and families as they arrived at school.
Interim Superintendent Cartwright and School Board members started the day by greeting school bus drivers at the Southwest Transportation Terminal in Pembroke Pines. Afterwards, they welcomed students and families at Cypress Bay High School, Dolphin Bay Elementary School and Apollo Middle School.
They joined students for lunch at North Lauderdale Pre-K-8 before visiting Atlantic Technical High School and Lauderdale Lakes Middle School, where staff and teachers were also welcoming 7th grade students temporarily displaced from the James S. Rickards Middle School campus. The first day of school visits concluded at Pine Ridge Education Center.
“Today is a major milestone for Broward County Public Schools as our students return to 100% face-to-face learning,” said Interim Superintendent Cartwright. “Thank you to our teachers, administrators and staff for working to ensure today’s reopening of our schools was a safe and positive experience for our students. While the first day of school is always filled with excitement, we understand this school year is unlike any other and now, more than ever, it is important to have our students back in the classroom learning with their teachers and peers. Together, we can look forward to a safe and successful school year.”
