School Board Members, Superintendent and Staff Welcome BCPS Students and Families to the 2019/20 School Year
August 14, 2019
Public Schools (BCPS) Superintendent Robert W. Runcie and Broward County School Board members welcomed students, families and staff to the 2019/20 school year.
The Superintendent began his day early at the South Area Bus Terminal in Pembroke Pines at 5:30 a.m., as school bus drivers prepared to meet over 73,000 student riders. BCPS has one of the largest transportation fleets in the country, with more than 1,200 school buses and 1,000 routes. It also has the largest propane fleet in Florida, with 225 buses. All buses have a GPS system and a new 400 MHz two-way radio system.
Adding to the excitement of the day, the Miami Marlins and members of the Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation welcomed students at several schools and provided back to school supply distributions.
In addition to ensuring a smooth start to the 2019/20 school year, the District, with continued collaboration from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and its municipal partners, remains committed to ensuring every District school is safe and secure.
“We are excited to welcome students, staff and families to a new school year. The first day of school is always an exciting time for our families,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “From pre-K through our technical colleges, the energy and enthusiasm of our students and community was palpable across the District. We remain committed to providing safe and secure learning and working environments for our students and staff, and ensuring our students reach their highest potential.”
