Additional BCPS High School Students Named Winners of National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarships
Congratulations to Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) high school seniors Joyce Guo of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Taryn Bradley of McArthur High School and Maria Lakdawala of West Broward High School for being among the 540 additional winners of National Merit College-Sponsorships by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. These three National Merit University of Florida Scholarship winners join more than 3,500 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in June.
“We are extremely proud of all of our Merit Scholarship winners who have distinguished themselves in academic achievement,” said BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “We applaud their hard work and commitment to academic excellence, and wish for even greater successes in the future.”
Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
This is the last group of National Merit Scholar designees to be announced in 2019 by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). In three spring releases, NMSC announced winners of corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, National Merit $2,500 Scholarship awards, and the first group of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards.
