I cannot believe we are more than halfway through the school year! My how quickly this year is passing by. Now is the perfect time to take a look at your students' academic progress. I encourage you to sit with your student and review their current grades, GPA, attendance record and test information located in Virtual Counselor. Celebrate their successes and discuss a plan to address areas that need improvement. I encourage you to reach out to our school counseling office to schedule a conference if you or your student need academic, social or emotional assistance. We are here to help each student find success, so please let us know what we can do to support you and your student.
Please encourage your student to take advantage of our FREE tutoring services offered in all content areas as well as SAT/ACT test prep. The tutoring schedule is published in the bulletin that is email home weekly. If you are not receiving my weekly bulletin please contact the school to ensure we have your correct email address. If your student is taking the FSA (9,10 or 11/12 Retake) the Algebra EOC, Geometry EOC, Biology EOC or the US History EOC it is so important for them to attend our tutoring sessions. Keep in mind a passing score on the FSA and the Algebra EOC are required for graduation. In addition, our school grade is based upon students' performance on state mandated assessments, our graduation rate and our acceleration points. We are working very hard to increase the proficiency levels of all our students on the state mandated assessments and we need your help. Teachers are offering incentives to their students for attending tutoring sessions and I hope you do the same at home.
The course selection process for the 2020-2021 school year is currently underway. Course selection will be done through Naviance so please make sure your student’s account is activated.
We will continue to FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE the second half of the year and celebrate the many wonderful things going on at South. The South Plantation community is very near and dear to me and I am honored to serve as your leader. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your students' teacher(s), counselor, grade level administrator or me if we can be of assistance to you.Sincerely,Christine Henschel
