Attendance During Online Education at Traditional Schools

    • Students engaged in learning

Online learning began March 30, 2020 as a result of school closures to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The Student Services Department has adapted the content of this page to help guide students and parents through ensuring they are counted each school day.

How are students counted as “engaged” for a school day?

Each school day requires a fresh login at sso.browardschools.com where users will be routed to the Clever Portal.

If students are logged in from a previous day, it is important to click on the name at the top right of the screen to log out, then login in again to register a fresh count for the day.

      Log out Clever

Is my child marked absent if a “fresh” login was not recorded through the Clever Portal?

No. A new attendance code has been created to identify students that did not have a new login for a school day.

Students will be identified as missing a verified login. This code does NOT represent an absence. The new attendance code allows schools to identify students that are consistently identified without a login. Our goal is to connect 100% of our students to online learning.

Do parents need to report an excuse if there was a call about their child not logging in the previous day?

Parents do not have to report a singular missed login for the school to change the code. The “no login” code is not counted as an absence and will not count against a student.

The reminder call for student logins is to help ensure that all students are accessing the online learning environment and that they are counted by the Clever Portal each school day. Other apps within Clever (like Canvas or D2L) do not have the same ability to report student logins.

Parents of students that are not able to connect to the learning environment should call the school to find out what assistance can be offered to ensure their child has an opportunity to learn.

    SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

    Greetings Parents and Community Members,

Happy March! The English Language Arts (ELA), Writing, Math and Science FSA Assessments and the End of Year exams will be administered in April and May. This month serves as our last push to review and practice the skills that students may need to improve, so we call it “Crunch Time”.

You can help your child to be prepared by making sure that they read for at least 30 minutes each night without interruptions from television, video games or background noises. This will help them to build up the stamina that is needed to read long passages that they will see on the assessments.

Many grade levels are planning end of the year field trips to celebrate the completion of testing. Please note that students must meet behavior expectations in order to attend off campus trips. If you have any questions about your child’s progress, please contact the school or attend our next SAC meeting on March 10th at 6 PM.

Did you know we have a full-time School Social Worker and Resource Room with free books, parent guides and videos to help with your child at home? We also will be starting a Food Pantry reserved for Parents and Community members. Feel free to stop by the school and see Mrs. Grant, our School Social Worker.

    Sincerely,

    Shedrick Dukes, Ed.S. Principal

Celebrating Dr. Seuss's Birthday with The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) for the First Books and Badges Event. For this event, law enforcement officers came to our school and read a Dr. Seuss book with to our students. Every year members of the community come to our school on Dr. Seuss day and read to our students. A big thank you to Major Granville, Suzzett Turnbull and all the other BSO officers who came out to support our students.
