McNab History

  • History of McNab Elementary School

McNab Elementary, Pompano Beach:  William McNab arrived in Pompano in 1899.  The family, including brothers, William "Harry" and Robert "Bob," were farmers with large land holdings in Pompano.  They were involved with civic and business dealings.  McNab School bears the family name.  It is located off McNab Road and was built close to Harry McNab Lake.  This was a man-made lake, created when the U.S. government used sand from the site to construct Federal Highway in 1917.  When the road was finished, he bought the lake at auction, and many years, stocked it with fish.  William's wife, Dora, was a teacher.
