Millions of students around the nation have served as safety patrols since the beginning of the programs in the 1920’s.
Since then, the casualty record among children ages 5 to 14 has decreased significantly. Patrols have played an important role in this achievement!
The primary aims of the Safety Patrol are:
· To help keep children safe on school grounds
· To help children become safe pedestrians
· To foster qualities of good leadership and citizenship
School Safety Patrol membership is an honored position! Members are selected for their courtesy, attitude towards others, compassion, dependability, and academic standing. Service in Driftwood Elementary Safety Patrol is voluntary, and the position requires a short amount of time each day. With their parent or guardian’s endorsement, students will shoulder responsibilities that will strengthen their character, provide an opportunity to help fellow students and develop a better understanding of school safety rules.
