Driftwood Elementary is committed to educating all students to reach their highest potential both in and out of the classroom. At Driftwood Elementary, we take a balanced literacy approach in teaching students that reading and writing is a lifelong process that promotes higher-order thinking, problem solving, and reasoning, while taking into account the social and emotional needs of all students. Literacy instruction includes opportunities for students to speak, listen, read, write, and think critically. All students will be given instruction specific to their needs, resulting from authentic data collection obtained by the teacher.

We encourage parents to read with their children every day, and to engage in conversation that promotes vocabulary and expression. The following websites are free of charge, and promote educational initiatives that are supported in Broward County.
