“Training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding”
Stirling Elementary is 1 of 8 Special Olympics Unified Champion schools in Broward County, and was the FIRST Broward Unified Champion elementary school! Dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences, Unified Champion joins students with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team and playing field.
Club UNIFY introduces students to Special Olympics and the fun experience of cheering for their friends, all with the goal of helping them take the lead in building an atmosphere of respect and trust within the school and the community. Club UNIFY members meet weekly, working together in the classroom to create projects to help spread awareness of persons with disabilities, as well as outside training for basketball and track competitions.
In addition to helping our athletes train for individual competitions, Club UNIFY members have the opportunity to join our Special Olympics athletes on the track in a 4x100 relay race team. As a member of one of our relay teams, our partners attend all practices and events with the athletes.
