    Good afternoon Eagles:

As per School Board Policy 6000.1, students who have earned a grade of a “B” or better in a high school course may exempt up to three mid-term exams. Advanced Placement (AP) courses may NOT be exempted. All mid-term exam exemptions require parent permission. Students may select three (3) exams with qualifying grades to exempt.

Exam Exemptions will be completed by students on a link located on our website.  This link was activated today and forms are due for submission by Dec 8th at 2:45 pm.  Students must have an A or B  in quarter 1 and 2 by the time of the exam to be eligible to exempt it.  Students are responsible to monitor their grades in each class and ensure that the grade remains eligible for exemption.  If the grade falls below a B for the second quarter, the student will be required to take the exam, even if the exemption form had been previously submitted. The student cannot select an alternate exam to exempt if a grade drops below a B so please select your exemptions carefully.

Also, as a reminder, you’re invited to attend the new Parent University webinar series tomorrow, Tuesday, November 17th, focusing on teaching and learning in our new educational landscape. Broward County Public Schools students, parents, teachers and administrators will share their experiences with face-to-face learning and e-learning, while, at the same time, the district learns from attendees – through an interactive chat – about what is working, what else can work and discusses ways we can help shape the public education system of the future.

Good afternoon Eagles: Yesterday, the School Board approved the re-opening dates for phase 2 of e-learning.  These dates are different than those originally recommended by the board.

Next Thursday, October 8th, will be a teacher planning day and no classes will be held for students. This will not impact the burgundy/silver calendar.  Friday, October 9th will remain a burgundy day. Additionally, October 12th and 14th will now be early release days for students. An updated calendar is available on our website.

Students in self-contained classes within our Exceptional Student Education program who have been confirmed for e-learning on campus will return to campus on October 9th. These are the only students who are authorized to be on campus on this date.

Ninth graders who have been confirmed for e-learning on campus will return to campus on October 13th and 10th through 12th graders who have been confirmed for e-learning in school will return to campus on October 15th.  All students registered for e-learning on campus were notified on Wednesday or Thursday.

Starting on October 9th, ALL students, whether on campus or at home, will follow the traditional bell schedule of 7:40 am to 2:40 pm. This bell schedule is available on our website.  Please note that first period will begin promptly at 7:40 am, beginning October 9th.  Additionally, we will revert to 2 lunch periods on October 9th. Your child's lunch period will be determined by the class they have 3rd period on silver days and 7th period on burgundy days.  First lunch begins at 10:48 am and ends at 11:24 am.  Students enrolled in a JROTC, Career or Technical, Learning Strategies, Reading, Language Arts, or Science course during 3rd period or 7th period will eat lunch during the first lunch period. Students enrolled in a Math, PE, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Fine Arts or Culinary class, during 3rd or 7th period will eat lunch during second lunch, from 12:26 pm until 1:02 pm.  Please remember that students may have a different lunch time on silver and burgundy days, depending on the class they have 3rd or 7th period.  Third and seventh period teachers will review this information with students next week.

Students confirmed to engage in phase 2 of e-learning on campus, please remember that parking applications are due from juniors and seniors no later than Sunday at 11:59 pm. Additionally, required items for e-learning on campus are a student ID (we will distribute these the first few days of e-learning on campus), a mask, a laptop and charging cord, and headphones or ear buds.  In addition to these required items, we also recommend that students bring an extra mask, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, and a water bottle.

We will be publishing a video on our website by the middle of next week detailing our processes and protocols for phase 2 of e-learning for those opting to return to campus.  I will put out a notification when this video is live.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. Have a great weekend, Eagles and remember, Be Positive, Be Passionate, and Be Proud to be an Eagle!

Hello Eagle families!  We have just over 2 weeks left in the 2019-20 school year. Keep working hard and finish strong!  Please review Pinnacle to track your progress.  Although CANVAS is our online learning platform, Pinnacle will contain the most up to date information related to grades.  There will be no final exams this year.  Please check our website for detailed information on how semester grades will be determined in the absence of final exams and EOC exams.

We have some good news related to student refunds.  We will start to process refunds for grad bash and prom next week.  You will be refunded in the same manner in which you paid.  If you paid by credit card, your card will be refunded.  Please understand that once the refund is provided by MSD, it is up to your bank as to when the funds will be reflected in your account.  If you paid by check or cash, a refund will be mailed to your home address.  We are also working on refunds for trips that did not take place but are still awaiting reimbursements from vendors and will process these as we are reimbursed.

Parents of Seniors - We want to showcase your student's after high school plans! We sent a link to our senior remind group @2020MSD in order to collect their senior decision cards.  We asked them to be creative and showcase what they've worked hard for all these years. Submissions are due by Sunday, May 17th at 11:59 pm. We are so excited to celebrate their post-secondary plans!

Seniors- We will be distributing caps and gowns, as well as cords and other graduation regalia on Monday, June 1st.  We will be distributing these items using an alphabetical schedule.  Please see our website for your assigned time as well as logistics regarding the pick up process.  As a reminder, the last day for seniors will be May 26th.  Any senior who has borrowed a laptop from MSD will need to return it to MSD on May 28th at 8:00 am.  Please also remember that seniors being honored at this year's Senior Recognition event were sent an invitation to the virtual ceremony, which will be broadcast next Thursday at 6:00 pm.  Our virtual graduation ceremony will be broadcast on June 15th at 7:00 pm.  Seniors must have a Media Release form on file in order to be included in this year's graduation.  Students without a form have been contacted and will have until Tuesday, May 19th to submit these forms, or they will not be included in the ceremony.  Please get these submitted ASAP.

We are very grateful to the city of Parkland and Coral Springs for hosting a parade honoring our graduates on Saturday, June 6th.  Details regarding this event are on our website.  We are thrilled to honor our graduates through this parade.  Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, only graduates and their immediate families will be permitted in the parade and every graduate and any family member participating must be in a vehicle.  No spectators will be permitted along the parade route.  The mayor has asked me to remind families that safety is a primary concern and we do not want the parade to be cancelled as a result of established safety protocols not being followed.  Thank you for helping to ensure we are able to celebrate our graduates while keeping everyone safe.

We will be hosting an awards ceremony for underclassmen when we return in the fall.  Additionally, underclassmen will keep textbooks and laptops until the start of school next year. If your student will not be returning to MSD next year, please contact the school to arrange a time to turn in textbooks and laptops, as well as any other school items you may have.

Yearbooks are still on sale until May 18th.  There are only a few left. Please purchase yours online as soon as possible to ensure you do not miss out on the opportunity to own a yearbook.
