I want to wish everyone a very Happy Labor day and for those of you who celebrate Rosh Hashanah, a safe and happy holiday. Please remember that schools are closed on Monday and Tuesday in observance of these holidays.

If you purchased a Homecoming ticket to the dance, there will be a required Microsoft form to fill out that can be found on Canvas, our school website as well as link in the Class Remind. These online forms are required and will be due by Wednesday, September 8th.  If you do not submit these forms by the due date, you will forfeit your ticket to the dance and it will be offered to a student on the waiting list.

There are forms attached to the online form that will need to be printed, completed, and turned in at the L-Counter in the Cafeteria starting Monday, September 13th to receive the physical ticket to the dance.

Please note that tickets are NOT transferrable to another student. If a student purchases or obtains a ticket from another student without authorization from MSD administration, they WILL NOT be permitted into the dance and the student who the original ticket was purchased by will face disciplinary consequences.  The ticket purchased is tied to the student who purchased it.

If for some reason you cannot attend the dance, please see Ms. Driscoll in room 210 for assistance.

We will be creating a waiting list for students who still wish to purchase a ticket.  In order to put your name on the waiting list, you must email Ms. Driscoll at danielle.driscoll@browardschools.com. Students will be placed on the list in the order that she receives your email.  Being on the waiting list does not guarantee you a ticket and any available tickets will be allocated based on the student's place on the waiting list.

FSA Reading for 9th and 10th graders will start next week, with 9th graders testing on Tuesday, May 4th, 10th graders on Wednesday, May 5th, and our accommodated Students in 9th & 10th grade testing on Thursday & Friday, May 6th & 7th.
Students who did not complete the FSA Writing portion earlier this month cannot take the FSA reading portion, as all of these tests are combined for an overall score.
Students taking the FSA reading are REQUIRED to bring headphones with a regular jack in order to complete the test.  Health and safety precautions do not allow for the sharing of headphones. Students need to bring their ID, or they will be given a temporary ID as they enter the front red gates, #2 pencils (mechanical are not allowed), an approved calculator where applicable, a snack/water for the break in between sessions, and a sweater or jacket, as it can get cold in the testing rooms.
ALL TESTING STUDENTS who are planning on leaving campus after the test need to download and complete the early sign-out form on the MSD website FOR EACH day they are taking an exam. They will receive an exit pass upon receipt which they will present to security in order to leave campus. The testing calendar, along with locations for FSA testing, is posted on your student's CANVAS dashboard.
If a student is enrolled in a class where the teacher is proctoring, that student will go to the cafeteria where they will have an independent study activity assigned to them on CANVAS. They will need to complete the activity or attendance quiz in order for them to be marked present for that class period. The list of proctors for each day can also be found on the CANVAS dashboard.
Locations for EOC testing will be posted by the end of next week on the CANVAS dashboard. If a student has an AP exam and FSA or EOC exam on the same day, they will take the AP exam on that given day and then complete the FSA/EOC makeup form, which can be found on the CANVAS dashboard starting at noon next Friday, May 7th. The calendar has the makeup days listed for your reference.
Our Saturday, EOC and FSA camps will run for 2 more weeks.  They will conclude on 5/8, which is our last session.
I just want to inform you that senior exam exemption forms will go live on the website this coming Monday at 7:00 a.m.  Students have until May 14th to complete it.
Next week is staff appreciation week. Please consider sending a note to your teachers or favorite staff member, to let them know that they are appreciated.
Congratulations to the Boys Baseball & Boys Volleyball Team for winning the district championship!!
We have the following games next week:

Good afternoon Eagles and Happy Friday!

The Superintendent announced this week that all classes next year will be in person.  We are excited to welcome all of our Eagles back to campus during the 2021-22 school year!

The Commissioner of Education recently announced some changes to testing requirements for this school year.  We have published an infographic on our school website regarding the impacts to testing, graduation and EOC grade calculations due to the Commissioner's recent executive order.  You can find a presentation with more detailed information at browardschools.com/testing.  Please review the implications of the recent executive order with your student and should you have any questions, please reach out to your child's EOC or FSA teacher.

Please remember that students enrolled in 10th grade must pass the FSA ELA and students enrolled in Algebra must pass the Algebra EOC in order to earn a high school diploma.  If your student is enrolled in Geometry this year, s/he can use a passing score on the Geometry EOC to count for their Algebra test score for graduation purposes, since this test was not administered last year due to COVID-19.  It is very important that if at all possible, these students take these assessments.

Attention Class of 2022- Please join us on Tuesday, April 27th at 6:00 p.m. via Microsoft Teams for a Junior Information Session. A link has been emailed out. We look forward to seeing you there!

Seniors interested in the Senior Gala can buy tickets on the e-store for $60 until Sunday.  On Monday, 4/19, the price will go up to $75.  There is a document on the senior CANVAS page containing frequently asked questions and answers about the event.

Parents, please be advised that Broward County is requiring Stoneman Douglas to re-register our current 9th-11th grade students due to our school being overcrowded. Beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19th, 2021, there will be an assignment on our School Counseling Canvas page that will require you to complete the writable form and upload the proper requested address proof documents and driver 's license. This must be completed by Friday, April 23rd. Any questions, please contact the guidance office at 754-322-2175.

The 2021 yearbook is finished & being printed. Distribution is TBD. There are only 100 books left to order via the MSD e-store. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to own a yearbook.

    Good afternoon Eagles!

We are starting our planning for next school year.  We will be be hosting a virtual parent night on Monday, January 25th at 6:00 pm on TEAMS to review the course selection process for all current students for school year 2021-22.  The meeting link will be available on our school website on Monday.  We will conduct an overview of the process and then you will have the opportunity to ask questions related to specific courses and subject areas.

Please remember that next Tuesday, January 26th, we will be administering the PSAT during the school day.  Only students who have registered to take the PSAT should be on campus that day.  All students who are NOT taking the PSAT on Tuesday, January 26th, will be completing the state mandated comprehensive health curriculum remotely from home.  Students that are not testing will not be reporting to campus and they will not be attending their normal 1st hour class; instead, they will log into a special Microsoft Teams meeting at 7:40 am.  Students can locate the appropriate teams call link to join the mental health training in three places- the grade level Canvas Page, the Guidance Canvas Page, or the Main MSD Website.  The Teams calls are separated by grade level and last name, so be sure to join the correct one.  All modules will be available on Tuesday via the MSD Guidance Canvas page for completion.  Again, this is a state mandated curriculum that our students who are not taking the PSAT will complete on Tuesday, 1/26.  For questions, please contact Rachel Kusher.

Students who did not complete the required survey to select a service project on our February 12th "Day of Service and Love" have been defaulted to an excused absence for that day. You will be receiving an email and call next week confirming your selection for that day as well as instructions for correcting any errors in your recorded selection.  Although the survey was due last week, we have left it open for anyone who has not yet completed it. It will close permanently on Monday so if you do still need to make your selection, please do so this weekend.

Seniors: Please follow the steps below to check the spelling of your name for your diploma:

    Log in to Virtual Counselor
Check the spelling of your name in Virtual Counselor (the name on your diploma will be what appears in Virtual Counselor).  If there is an error in the spelling of your name in Virtual Counselor you must email Ms. Pena at amelia.pena@browardschools.com by 2/5/2021 with any changes requested.

Next Monday, our boys' and girls' basketball teams will take on McArthur HS at McArthur at 6:00 pm. On Tuesday, our boys' and girls' soccer teams will take on Cooper City HS at Cooper City at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.  The boys' basketball team will take on South Plantation at home on Wednesday at 5:00 pm and we will finish the week with our boys' and girls' soccer teams travelling to Cardinal Gibbons to play on Thursday at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

This means that the only students that will be PHYSICALLY on campus that day are the 10th & 11th graders who signed up to take the PSAT. Those students have been added to the PSAT Portal on Canvas and will receive additional parentlink messages as more information becomes available. The rest of the students who are NOT testing will be doing a state-mandated mental health training virtually. More information will be coming on this next week. It is a FULL school day, so there will be a modified bell schedule after the exam is over and dismissal will be at the regular time of 2:40 pm. If you want your student to sign out after the exam, you MUST have them download & print the early release form from the PSAT Portal and complete it with a copy of your driver's license or legal ID which they will bring with them on the day of the exam and turn in to their proctor. All early release students will be dismissed from their testing location with an exit ticket which will allow them to leave campus in waves to prevent any infringement on CDC social distancing guidelines. For more information, please visit the PSAT Portal through our website.

The SAT School day will be on Wednesday, March 3rd. ALL 11th graders need to fill out the SAT School Day Reservation form indicating if they will be coming to MSD to take the SAT or if they decline and will not come to MSD for the SAT School Day. This form can be found on the Class of 2022 Canvas page. and needs to be completed by Friday, February 5th.

We will be hosting an informational session on Monday, January 25th at 6:00 pm for all current 9th-11th graders on completing your course cards for the 2021-22 school year.  A TEAMS link will be sent out through our guidance department.

If you have not already done so, please complete the survey on our website indicating your child's preferred activity for the February 12th Day of Service and Love, honoring the victims of the February 14th tragedy. This survey closes today and it is critical that we have a response for each of our students.

If you are interested in playing a spring sport, please have your paperwork in by Friday 1/22.  Spring sports officially begin on 1/28.

Impact tests for track, boys' volleyball, and make-ups and other spring sports will be on Thur. 1/21 in the mini gym at 3:30pm.  Please bring your computer.

Have a great weekend, Eagles and as always, Be Positive, Be Passionate, and Be Proud to be an Eagle!

    Good afternoon Eagles:

As per School Board Policy 6000.1, students who have earned a grade of a “B” or better in a high school course may exempt up to three mid-term exams. Advanced Placement (AP) courses may NOT be exempted. All mid-term exam exemptions require parent permission. Students may select three (3) exams with qualifying grades to exempt.

Exam Exemptions will be completed by students on a link located on our website.  This link was activated today and forms are due for submission by Dec 8th at 2:45 pm.  Students must have an A or B  in quarter 1 and 2 by the time of the exam to be eligible to exempt it.  Students are responsible to monitor their grades in each class and ensure that the grade remains eligible for exemption.  If the grade falls below a B for the second quarter, the student will be required to take the exam, even if the exemption form had been previously submitted. The student cannot select an alternate exam to exempt if a grade drops below a B so please select your exemptions carefully.

Good afternoon Eagles and Happy Friday!  Please remember that Monday, September 7th, there are no classes, in observance of Labor Day.  We will return to school on Tuesday and it will be a burgundy day.  2020-21 yearbooks are on sale for $80 through 9/30 via the MSD e-store. You can access the e-store on our website by clicking the dollar sign icon on the burgundy menu bar.

Juniors who wish to take the PSAT to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship, can do so by registering through the e-store.  The administration date will be October 29th and it is only open to juniors.  This assessment will be administered at MSD even if school is not yet re-opened for face-to-face instruction.  Due to CDC requirements related to social distancing, we have limited seats available for this assessment. They will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you are unable to take the assessment in October, the only other opportunity will be in January.

Seniors: It's time to take your senior picture! You need to contact FoxMar at (954) 653-2301 to schedule an appointment.  If you wish to take senior photos, you must make an appointment as soon as possible.

As schools remain closed, options for school pictures for grades 9-11 will be held off-campus this year.  Students are not required to take a photo, however, many families have requested the option of a school picture, and if you choose to take a photo this is the photo that will be utilized in the yearbook.  Unfortunately, at this time we cannot guarantee that a make-up day will be held on campus.  If your child does not take a school photo they will not be included in the yearbook.

Families can make an appointment with the photo studio by using the links on our website.  Pictures will be taken by Strawbridge Studios at Parkridge Church (Coral Ridge Drive, just south of the Sawgrass Expressway).

Enjoy your long weekend, Eagles and Remember, Be Positive, Be Passionate, and Be Proud to be an Eagle!

Good afternoon Eagles: We are down to just over a week left in our school year.  Keep working hard; you are almost done!  As a reminder, Monday is a holiday and there is no school.  The last day of school for seniors is Tuesday, May 26th.

If you have left items in your PE locker, you will be able to pick up those items next week.  Seniors will be able to come on Thursday, May 28 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm and underclassmen can pick up their items on Friday, May 29, using the following schedule:

    Freshmen: 8:30am - 10:30am
    Sophomores: 10:30am - 12:30pm
    Juniors: 1:30pm - 3:30pm

Students will enter the student parking lot and enter through the 1300 gates.  We can only permit one student in the locker room at a time and all students must be wearing a mask in order to access their locker.  We ask that you please be patient, as we have to adhere to safety guidelines, while permitting the pick-up of needed items.  Please ensure that you have your student ID with you when you arrive to campus.

We will be posting summer assignments on our website over the next 2 weeks. Please check the website for these assignments if you will be taking an Advanced Placement course next year.

Seniors: Please remember to check the "Senior Portal" on our website for important reminders about cap and gown pick-up, diploma pick-up and other important senior information.  Please also remember that any senior who has a school issued laptop, JROTC uniform or band instrument must return those items to MSD on May 28th.  Textbooks will be returned on June 1st, during cap and gown pick-up.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend, Eagles and please remember, Be Positive, Be Passionate, and Be Proud to be an Eagle!

Hello Eagle families!  We have just over 2 weeks left in the 2019-20 school year. Keep working hard and finish strong!  Please review Pinnacle to track your progress.  Although CANVAS is our online learning platform, Pinnacle will contain the most up to date information related to grades.  There will be no final exams this year.  Please check our website for detailed information on how semester grades will be determined in the absence of final exams and EOC exams.

We have some good news related to student refunds.  We will start to process refunds for grad bash and prom next week.  You will be refunded in the same manner in which you paid.  If you paid by credit card, your card will be refunded.  Please understand that once the refund is provided by MSD, it is up to your bank as to when the funds will be reflected in your account.  If you paid by check or cash, a refund will be mailed to your home address.  We are also working on refunds for trips that did not take place but are still awaiting reimbursements from vendors and will process these as we are reimbursed.

Parents of Seniors - We want to showcase your student's after high school plans! We sent a link to our senior remind group @2020MSD in order to collect their senior decision cards.  We asked them to be creative and showcase what they've worked hard for all these years. Submissions are due by Sunday, May 17th at 11:59 pm. We are so excited to celebrate their post-secondary plans!

Seniors- We will be distributing caps and gowns, as well as cords and other graduation regalia on Monday, June 1st.  We will be distributing these items using an alphabetical schedule.  Please see our website for your assigned time as well as logistics regarding the pick up process.  As a reminder, the last day for seniors will be May 26th.  Any senior who has borrowed a laptop from MSD will need to return it to MSD on May 28th at 8:00 am.  Please also remember that seniors being honored at this year's Senior Recognition event were sent an invitation to the virtual ceremony, which will be broadcast next Thursday at 6:00 pm.  Our virtual graduation ceremony will be broadcast on June 15th at 7:00 pm.  Seniors must have a Media Release form on file in order to be included in this year's graduation.  Students without a form have been contacted and will have until Tuesday, May 19th to submit these forms, or they will not be included in the ceremony.  Please get these submitted ASAP.

We are very grateful to the city of Parkland and Coral Springs for hosting a parade honoring our graduates on Saturday, June 6th.  Details regarding this event are on our website.  We are thrilled to honor our graduates through this parade.  Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, only graduates and their immediate families will be permitted in the parade and every graduate and any family member participating must be in a vehicle.  No spectators will be permitted along the parade route.  The mayor has asked me to remind families that safety is a primary concern and we do not want the parade to be cancelled as a result of established safety protocols not being followed.  Thank you for helping to ensure we are able to celebrate our graduates while keeping everyone safe.

We will be hosting an awards ceremony for underclassmen when we return in the fall.  Additionally, underclassmen will keep textbooks and laptops until the start of school next year. If your student will not be returning to MSD next year, please contact the school to arrange a time to turn in textbooks and laptops, as well as any other school items you may have.

Yearbooks are still on sale until May 18th.  There are only a few left. Please purchase yours online as soon as possible to ensure you do not miss out on the opportunity to own a yearbook.

As a reminder, we are here if you need us via email or telephone.  Have a great weekend Eagles, and remember, Be Positive, Be Passionate and Be Proud to be an Eagle!
