Trojan Family,
It is my honor, privilege, and pleasure to be the principal of J.P. Taravella High since 2018. Before I was an educator, I worked in the legal field while going to college (BC/FAU) and raising a family. I was able to earn my degree and I started teaching Secondary Mathematics at Broward County Schools in 2000. In 2012, I stepped out of the classroom to become an administrator and that was a big change and challenge for me. As the leader of our school, I don't lose sight of being a classroom teacher and a parent; it is what drives me on a daily basis to ensure that our students, faculty and staff are challenged and encouraged to be the best that they can be.
I am proud to share that the staff and students at JPT are beyond any you will ever find anywhere else. We have established a community of love and kindness. Our students know that they have a place they can call home at JPT and that there is someone always available for their academic and emotional support. I am always excited about attending all the different events that occur on our campus and am always amazed at the accomplishments of our students. Of course, these things could not have occurred if it wasn't for the amazing faculty at JPT. Teachers at JPT go above and beyond to serve our students and our community. They lead by example and encourage our students to get involved in extra-curricular activities as well. Our staff is a family: students, teachers, administrators, custodians, security, paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff, school counselors, clerical & support staff. We do not work apart from each other, we work together to support each other and it makes a difference.
All great schools have strong connections with the families and the communities they serve. We welcome healthy partnerships with families, as it is imperative that educators and parents join forces to provide a rich and supportive educational experience for our students. And it is because of these connections through our SAC, PTSO, SAF, and more that our ties are strengthened and our family is extended into our community.
Our student and staff population is diverse in culture and it only makes us stronger and more united. No matter who you are, there is no doubt that there are TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE: "TROJANS AND THOSE WHO WANT TO BE TROJANS;" once you enter our JPT doors: "WE ARE TROJANS!"
Love and Blessings,
Marietta DeArmas
