What is the PTSA?
PTSA stands for Parent Teacher Student Association. The mission of the PTSA is to make every child’s potential a reality.
So what is PTA?
As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children and provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students.PTA/PTSA does not act alone. Working in cooperation with many national education, health, safety, and child advocacy groups and federal agencies, the national PTA organization collaborates on projects that benefit children and that bring valuable resources to its members.
PTAs/PTSAs serve as a type of forum where parents, teachers, administrators, and other concerned adults discuss ways to promote quality education, strive to expand the arts, encourage community involvement, and work for a healthy environment and safe neighborhoods. By virtue of its connections to the state and national PTAs, the local PTSA is a valuable resource to its school community with:
First and foremost,- Access to programs that benefit children, youth, and their families.
- Recognition and size to influence the formulation of laws, policies, and practices, be it education or legislative.
Why you should I join PTA/PTSA? (Here are a few reasons)
- Parental involvement: parental involvement is crucial to the health and well-being of a child. statistics, across the board, show that when parents are involved in their children’s education, the children perform better in school, and navigate more easily some of the challenges of growing up.
- Information on school and community events.
- Support Students, Teachers, and your child's school.
- A voice for discussing any issues that you may be having at your child’s school.
- You can join PTSA just to lend your voice without ever coming into the school to volunteer, if you so choose.
So please consider adding your voice to the 5 million and counting voices advocating for children and their families.
