Principal's Message

  • Ms. Oliver

Greetings and Happy New Year CSPK8 Families,

It is with great excitement and joy that we welcome our scholars and families back to the 2021-2022 school year. It is truly an honor to serve as your principal for another school year, and this is an honor that I don’t take for granted. I’m also extremely privileged to work with outstanding staff who have worked tirelessly to make it a smooth transition back to school during this time of uncertainty.  I know that many of our families are experiencing anxiety about the return of face-to-face learning, but rest assured that we are working as a school team to ensure safety for all scholars and staff. In addition to our academic goals, providing a healthy and safe environment will continue to be a priority for CSPK8.  We are all excited to have our scholars back in the classrooms and hallways, filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. Therefore, we will take the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe.

We have been working hard all summer to plan for a safe opening of school and to implement best practices to mitigate the risks associated with Covid-19. Our classrooms have been modified to increase social distancing, sanitation stations are posted in all common areas, and our teachers are versed in allowing time for handwashing and opportunities to access outdoor learning spaces. All adults and scholars will wear masks while on the inside of the buildings and classrooms. However, during outdoor recess and while eating lunch, our scholars are permitted to remove their masks for that timeframe. Upon entering the building and finishing lunch, our scholars will be prompted to ‘mask up”.  It is our goal to keep your child/ren and all scholars safe in an effort to maximize this opportunity for face-to-face learning.

The staff at CSPK8 has a deep understanding of the learning loss that has taken place in approximately 87% of our scholars.  Therefore, our efforts and expectations have increased to ensure that EVERY scholar receives high-quality standards-based instruction.  Our theme for this school year is CSPK8 is Going for the G.O.A.L. (Greatness, Outcomes, Accountability, & Learning). In order to meet our G.O.A.L., it will take a committed effort from all stakeholders (Scholars, Staff, and Parents). It is CRITICAL that all families get involved with their children’s education.  We need to work as a T.E.A.M. to close the lost learning gaps. Parents can’t do it alone, nor can teachers. Partnering with families will be crucial this year as we face many obstacles due to the global pandemic.  We are a T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More). Let’s do this for “our children”. They are our future.

The first step to reaching our G.O.A.L. is for parents to get involved. Join PTA, SAC, and/or SAF.  SAC and SAF work collaboratively with the administration and staff to make informed decisions regarding the school’s budget, and the School Improvement Plan. WE NEED YOU. Additionally, with safety measures in place, we look forward to returning to some Family Night Events.  Stay tuned for a detailed calendar coming soon.

Once again, welcome back to our returning families, and WELCOME to our new families.  Be sure to stay abreast of important school information by visiting our school’s website, Additionally, to get a glimpse of what is happening throughout the week, follow me on Twitter, and finally visit us on Facebook.

Let’s make this the BEST YEAR EVER!!!

    Educationally Yours,

    Principal Vonda L. Oliver
