  • "Education is the best investment anyone can make and if students have

at least one mentor in their life

who believes in them and encourages them - everyone can be successful

(and I have the data to support this claim)!"

Dr. Jodie Weinstein has spent 27 years in Education.  She graduated from Tulane University in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in comparative religion. After graduation, she moved back home to Miami and began teaching psychology, earth science, and physical science in an inner-city high school in Liberty City, FL, where 99% of the students qualified for free or reduced lunch.  She started the Advanced Placement Psychology program at the high school - believing her students, regardless of their race, cultural background, or socioeconomic status - could pass the AP test, AND in the first year of the program - her students earned the second-highest passing rate in the school district that year.

During her years teaching at the high school, Dr. Weinstein worked full-time as a teacher and was a part-time student at Florida Atlantic University pursuing a Master's degree in education with a focus on School Counseling, completing that degree in 2004. The AP Psychology program grew over 7 years and continued to have high passing rates when the College Board took notice and asked Dr. Weinstein to join them to work on increasing enrollment of minority and limited English proficient students in AP courses in schools in Miami-Dade County. After the one-year position with the College Board was finished, Dr. Weinstein gained employment as a Professional School Counselor at a public high school in Broward County, FL.

Dr. Weinstein also started as an Adjunct Professor at Broward College in 2009, facilitating General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Child Psychology courses.  Her passion for teaching never left her!  Dr. Weinstein has been selected as Adjunct Professor of the Year at Broward College three times - 2013, 2018, and 2021.  And while working full-time as a counselor and part-time professor, Dr. Weinstein went back to school part-time to earn a PhD in Counseling and Counseling Education at Florida Atlantic University.  She successfully defended her dissertation in 2013 titled The Effect of Student Success Skills Small Group Counseling on Students Identified as Potential Dropouts.  Her article titled The Effect of the Student Success Skills Small Group Intervention on Factors Associated with Dropout Potential was recently published (2021) in the Journal for Specialists in Group Work and the article was awarded the Al Dye award at the 2022 Association for Specialists in Group Work conference - recognizing it as the most outstanding article for that year.

Dr. Weinstein is now the Director of Guidance and Advising at the College Academy at Broward College, a public early college high school where students can earn their high school diploma and associate in arts degree concurrently through Dual Enrollment. Dr. Weinstein firmly believes that education is the ticket out of any negative situation and that degrees are the one thing no one can ever take away.
