    Sawgrass Elementary Community,

I couldn’t be prouder of our school and all that has been achieved by our students, staff and families. Sawgrass maintained our “A” designation by the Florida Department of Education for the second straight year. Our students in grades K-2 also made significant strides, as evidenced by over 80% of our students meeting criteria for on grade level reading. While we recognize that school grades are important, they are not the only thing that makes Sawgrass a great place for kids to be.  Beyond the academic day we also have been able to offer applied learning experiences in the areas of debate, robotics, gardening, astronomy, performance arts and culture during our after-school clubs. We also are extremely lucky to have our PTA who provide our school with phenomenal support, and strives to involve all parents in partnership with Sawgrass Elementary.  Lastly, our educators are some of the best you will find.  They are caring, creative and committed to every child.

Going forward into this school year, the staff and I are focused on continuous improvement.  As fantastic as Sawgrass is, we are determined to make it even better!  This year we will continue to offer additional applied learning opportunities for our students through after school clubs.  We will extend some of these opportunities throughout the school day by offering two redesigned specials classes, S.T.E.A.M and Media/Debate to students’ Pre-K – 5.  Our new peer buddy program “Panther Pals” will be available for our students as they develop socially and emotionally.  We will also deploy two additional resource teachers specifically for our students who are significantly struggling.  Sawgrass teachers will be availed to the best professional development and support through our continued investment in our teachers. Safety and security will also be a constant priority among all school staff.  Here at Sawgrass, we are determined to provide a safe environment in-order to meet each child where they are, to build their confidence, and allow them to reach their highest potential.  With you, I know this school year will be one of the best-ever.

You can expect me to be visible and involved in all aspects of the school. I will be out front of the school greeting our students during morning arrival, ensuring their safe transition back to you during afternoon dismissal, and will be a constant support on our school’s campus. I have an open-door policy and I value your feedback and voice as we join to make Sawgrass the best in can be,

    Warm Regards,

    Stephen DeCotis, Principal
