Principal's Message

    Sawgrass Families,

All the boys and girls are hard at work here at school and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts to this point in the school year.  As we dig in further over the next few weeks, we all must work together to ensure each child meets their learning potential for the year.  Specifically, we need all the students to work on their appropriate grade level math facts.  Over the next several weeks, we will be helping the students practice these essential facts while also providing their daily math lessons.  As you may know, unless a child learns their facts fluently, they will experience more and more difficulty as time goes by which is why it is critical that all of us work together to help the children become fluent with their facts.  Here are the areas that each grade level is being asked to master now:

    • Kindergarten – counting 1-10
    • 1st Grade – adding within 10
    • 2nd Grade – adding and subtracting within 20
    • 3rd Grade – adding and subtracting within 100 & multiplication facts 0-4
    • 4th Grade – multiplication facts 0-10
    • 5th Grade – multiplication facts up to 0-12

In addition, we will begin and extended learning opportunity starting on October 25th for students identified as needing additional assistance in math.  We look forward to working with every student to close any learning gaps.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me here at school.

    Mr. DeCotis,
