Principal's Message

  • Mrs. Wessinger, Princpal

Dear Parents, Students, Staff, and Community Partners:

Welcome to New River Middle School, “Home of the Sharks”.  I am extremely proud to serve as the Principal of this amazing educational institution where we focus on the “whole” child, creating excitement for learning through experiential and relevant opportunities for all students.  It is our mission at New River to promote an optimal educational experience while providing an environment where students feel safe, respected, nurtured and supported.

New River is recognized by Magnet Schools of America as a Nationally Certified Magnet School as well as a Magnet School of Distinction.  We offer your child the chance to participate in educational activities both in and out of the classroom.  Examples of some of the activities in which students can participate include kayaking, snorkeling, and shark tagging.  There are also many clubs, activities, sports and musical opportunities.  New River is committed to finding an activity that will reach every student.

This year we are expanding our wide variety of offerings to also include engineering, forensics, entrepreneurship, as well as a virtual reality lab.  This has been made possible by a grant from Magnet Schools Assistance Program.  There is much excitement to see what other cutting-edge additions will enhance our already award-winning program.  It is a great time to be a shark!!!

My job is to support the students and the families that are part of the educational program.  I am committed to ensuring that all students have a positive experience and have their individuals needs met.  The faculty and staff work diligently to provide every student with a quality education while building positive character traits.  I am proud to work with such a committed group of educators.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  I have an open-door policy.  The teachers, the school counseling staff, and administration are also here to help.

Looking forward to connecting with all of you!

    Melinda Wessinger
