Dear Parents, Guardians and Students:
Welcome to the Cavalier Family! As we start the new school year, we reaffirm our commitment to providing students with a rigorous and challenging curriculum that aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring students that see the world through a more global and intercultural perspective that supports understanding and respect within a safe learning environment.
The beginning of the year is the perfect time for our Cavaliers to reflect, reset, and renew their commitment to learning. New Renaissance Middle School is an authorized International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program School. The IB Learner Profile is the foundation of this world renown program. All students have 4 classes on alternating burgundy and gold days for a total of eight classes which encompass the required IB coursework: language and literature, individuals and societies, mathematics, science, language acquisition, visual arts, performing arts and physical education. This required IB coursework prepares students for the competitive and selective high school IB Diploma Program opening doors to college admittance and scholarship opportunities. We are the first middle school in the south area to become part of the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts Turnaround Arts Program. In May we unveiled a Verizon Innovative Learning Lab giving students access to 21st century technology such as artificial intelligence, coding, virtual-reality, and 3-D printing.
A sixth grade and new student orientation will be held in the multi-purpose room on Friday, August 12th at 1:00 p.m. It is the perfect opportunity for new students and parents to meet school administrators, counselors and teachers as well as learn about school policies and procedures. Returning seventh and eighth grade students can also pick up schedules that afternoon from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend, please note your child can access their schedule on virtual counselor.
STUDENTS WITHOUT UPDATED STATE REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS WILL NOT BE GIVEN THEIR SCHEDULE. WE MUST COMPLY WITH THE LAW: NO SHOTS – NO SCHOOL. If you have any questions regarding immunizations, please contact the School Counseling Department at 754-323-3500.
New Renaissance Middle School is a unified dress code school. Copies of the unified dress code are included with this letter. Unified dress code items can be purchased at any store however All Uniform Wear located at 8350 Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines, FL has available unified dress code shirts with the school emblem. Please make sure you purchase items for New Renaissance Middle School in Miramar, FL. There are other schools with similar names.
Children need healthy meals to learn. New Renaissance Middle School is happy to announce it will operate under the Community Eligibility Provision or (CEP) for the 2022-2023 school year. The provision is available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs with 40% or more students receiving SNAP, TANF or Extension of Benefits. This means all students enrolled at New Renaissance Middle School are eligible to receive Breakfast and Lunch at no cost.
Eligible students needing bus transportation for the upcoming school year who were registered at https://tfsweb.browardschools.com/ride by July 15th are guaranteed a bus for the first day of school. Students registered after July 16th may not get a bus assignment until the second week of school, bus assignment timelines will vary. Tuesday, August 16, 2022, is the official start of the 2022 – 2023 school year. School hours are from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Student supervision is provided from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Students cannot arrive on campus before 9:00 a.m. Parents choosing to drive their child to school must use the car loop for student drop-off and pick-up. Please do not drop students off at Ansin Park or on Miramar Boulevard.
Safety and security of students and staff is priority #1 at New Renaissance Middle School. Students must wear IDs at all times. It is NOT optional. ID’s will be distributed during the first week of school. Up to 4 replacement ID’s can be provided. Students incur a $5 charge/obligation upon the issuance of the 5th ID and beyond. Students not displaying/wearing their ID will be issued consequences according to the Code of Student Conduct and Discipline Matrix.
Packets containing important documents will be distributed to students on the first day of school. Parents/guardians are asked to review the information in the packet and complete/sign and return the required school forms with their child by Tuesday, August 23, 2022. The Broward County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct for secondary students is available online at: www.browardschools.com. Please review this important information with your child.
Mark your calendar. Open house for all students will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.
