  • Clubs and organizations are a great way to help develop character and the skills that will benefit you in school, your career, and in life. Skills like commitment, leadership, effective communication, and being able to work successfully in a group all come from participating in a club or organization. Joining a club is a great way to make friends, develop leadership skills, and boost your college resumé.

    The purpose of our Book Club is to promote literacy and a sense of belonging amongst our students.  It also provides an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful dialogue with their peers, express their opinions, and learn to respond to differing opinions with respect.

    Our chess team is an open club for all students in Grades 9 through 12 who want to learn the game of chess, compete in school and at-large tournaments, and hold a 2.0-grade point average.

    Debate club helps students to develop public speaking skills and participate in competitions around the county, state, and in the nation. This is also a class and in order to be part of the team, one must be enrolled in the debate class. Meets weekly after school in room 702. Squad meetings and practice throughout the week.

  • Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders (MTL)

    Sponsor: TBA

    • Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders is an intergenerational peer-mentoring program that employs early intervention strategies and culturally responsive methods to increase middle school students’ high school readiness.
    • The mission of MTL is to provide dropout prevention, educational re-engagement, and student leadership program that operates according to five pillars to increase graduation rates, college admissions, and scholarships. The five pillars are Academic Achievement, Mentoring, Family Involvement, Community Support, and Incentives.
    • MTL students are provided with enrichment activities, book study, and rewards for positive behavior.  Additionally, they participate in a variety of workshops and retreats to assist in developing as leaders and to improve the Mentee's academics and behavior. 

  • National Honor Society (N.H.S.)

    Period of Eligibility

    Students may become eligible for membership in the National Honor Society ONLY at the beginning of the second semester of their Sophomore or Junior year. Applications must be obtained from the Advisor.

    Membership Requirements

    The qualifications for membership in the National Honor Society Chapters of all Broward Public High Schools will be in compliance with the general requirements as set forth in the Handbooks of the Florida Chapter of the National Honor Society and of the National Honor Society itself. That is, achievement in the following four areas will be necessary for membership: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.


    Students are assumed to be of good character unless there is documentation of disciplinary action taken by the school, community or state for serious or persistent misconduct on the part of the student.


    It will be necessary for a student to accumulate 30 hours of documented service from the time of the student’s entry into high school to be eligible for NHS membership. Only service hours that apply to The Student Volunteer Service Program and documented on the forms provided for use in that program will be accepted as verification of service rendered.


    Achievement in the area of leadership will be determined by:

    1. Documented evidence of election, appointment, or experience in two leadership positions in school-sponsored organizations or functions. The documentation must be provided by an adult involved with the organization or the function or a school administrator.

    2. Letter from a teacher, administrator, or other school staff member documenting two specific instances in which the student demonstrated leadership.

    3. A combination of one example of leadership from both 1 and 2 above.

    4. A combination of one example of leadership from either 1 or 2 combined with a letter from a community leader, a religious leader, or an employer documenting a specific instance in which the student demonstrated leadership.

    Receipt of the documentation or letters will be considered as proof of leadership. Recommendations will not be accepted by members of the student’s family.

  • ProStart - Culinary Arts

    ProStart is a two-year, industry-backed culinary arts and restaurant management program for high school students. The program reaches approximately 145,000 students in nearly 1,800 schools in all 50 states, Washington, DC, and the Territory of Guam.

    ProStart is taught with a two-level curriculum that:

    ·         Integrates practical skill sets

    ·         Allows students to become familiar with restaurants and foodservice

    ·         Exposes students to innovative career opportunities

    ·         Provides tools and skills needed to become a successful industry leader

    An Industry-Driven Program to Develop Industry Leaders

    ProStart students finish the program ready to join the workforce and make an immediate impact in restaurants and foodservice. ProStart students are closely connected to industry experts through guest speakers, class mentors, tours of local facilities, hosting student competitions, and more – all to ensure real-world experience is brought directly to the classroom.

    Work and Learn

    While classroom experience is necessary to learn the foundational culinary and management skills, nothing beats real-life experience gained by working in the industry. ProStart students learn how to be an industry professional through hands-on work under the direction of a mentor. Mentors help students make the connection between their present performance and their future career. Students also learn the importance of arriving on time prepared for work, teamwork and accountability.

    Women of Tomorrow mentees are part of a small group of young women at their high schools who meet once per month with at least one Women of Tomorrow mentor throughout their high school careers. Mentees participate in monthly mentoring sessions, career-focused field trips, and specialized college campus visits, and in 12th grade may apply for Women of Tomorrow scholarship opportunities to pursue higher education.
    Mentees begin the program in 9th or 10th grade and stay in the program throughout their high school careers. In any given Women of Tomorrow Mentoring Group, there are mentees in all four grade levels — 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Mentees are diverse young women with differing strengths and weaknesses, so they may learn from and help each other, in addition to benefiting from the mentoring they receive.

    How To Join:
    Mentees are selected for participation in the Women of Tomorrow Program by their school-based Women of Tomorrow School Coordinators, mostly through referrals by teachers, guidance, and/or administration. All mentees must complete annual mentee applications or mentee update forms, corresponding releases, and the mentee pledge. While participation in the program is voluntary, once enrolled, all mentees are required to attend all Mentoring Sessions and must have no unexcused absences to be eligible for Women of Tomorrow scholarship opportunities.

  • Youth Crime Watch

    Sponsor: Ms. Mamie Williams

    Meeting Times: Meets every Friday morning in 703A.

    Based on the Neighborhood Watch concept, a school crime watch helps youth watch out for each other to make the entire school area safer and more enjoyable. The school crime watch is a student-led effort that helps youth take a share of responsibility for their school community. Youth who participate in a school crime watch learn how to keep from becoming victims.  They also learn the best ways to report suspicious activities or arguments between students before they turn into fights or other disturbances. This club is for students concerned for school safety.
