  • National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence

    The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students. The program is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices. Each year since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals.



    National Magnet School of Distinction


    Magnet Schools of America recognizes the top magnet schools in the United States.  The Magnet Schools of Merit Award recognizes schools that show commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful diversity efforts, and the consistent delivery of quality services to all stakeholders.


    State of Florida Golden School Award

    The Golden School Award is given annually by the Florida Department of Education to recognize public schools with exemplary volunteer programs. Hours donated in all forms of volunteering, i.e. mentors, tutors, advisors and advocates, are to be included. A Golden School must meet the following criteria:

    • A staff training program on volunteerism in which a minimum of 80% of the school staff have participated during the school year.
    • A School Volunteer Coordinator who has been designated to provide leadership for the school volunteer program through recruitment, placement, training and supervision of participants.
    • A total number of hours in volunteer service that equals twice the number of students enrolled in the school. These hours of volunteer service will be in the areas that support instruction.


    State of Florida Silver School Award

    The Silver School Award is presented annually by the Florida Department of Education to recognize secondary schools whose students provide exemplary volunteer services to elementary and secondary schools. The award is presented to the schools that meet the following criteria:

    • The sending school must have a school volunteer coordinator who will provide coordination of the program, placement of students, orientation and training for the students, and student and program evaluation.
    • The receiving school must have a volunteer coordinator who will provide coordination of the program, assist in the placement of the secondary students, provide orientation and training for the receiving staff, and assist in providing for student and program evaluation.
    • Student volunteers and the receiving faculty must both receive orientation and training. Student volunteers must receive continuous supervision.
    • The composite student volunteer hours must equal at least one half the total number of students in the sending school 


    State of Florida School Related Employee of the Year

    This program recognizes outstanding education support personnel for the significant contributions they make to their schools and district school systems. The program honors one state representative and four finalists. In accordance with Florida Statue section 1012.21(5), the bureau provides coordination and technical assistance in the nomination, selection, and recognition processes.

    Nomination packets are sent to district superintendents at the beginning of each school year. Selection processes may differ by district. Only one nomination may be submitted by a district to the state and only the superintendent may make the nomination.

    All non-certified, non-instructional educational support personnel who serve at the school or district level (such as teacher aides, library aides, bookkeepers, secretaries and clerks, bus drivers, food service staff, custodians, building maintenance workers, warehouse workers, mechanics, nurses, and office managers) may be nominated. Nominees may be full or part-time employees. Instructional and administrative personnel as defined in Section 1012.01(2) (a) – (d) and (3). Certified administrative staff and contract employees are not eligible.
