Dear Bengal Family:
I have had the opportunity to work in one of the largest school districts in the country as a teacher, at-risk counselor, and assistant principal for the past 38 years. My most rewarding job has been serving as Principal of Pompano Beach Middle School for the past 22 years. I have had the opportunity to build relationships with some amazing groups of people. This includes dedicated and student-focused staff who always strive to make a difference in the lives of students, along with a committed and hard-working Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Most importantly, my greatest blessing was to be a part of students’ lives. Our school is rich with students that are appreciative, genuine, and caring. It is because of them I remained in the field of education, specifically at Pompano Beach Middle.
I want to thank the Broward County School Board and the Pompano community for affording me the privilege to be a part of such a thriving, unique school. We have had many accomplishments over the years. To name a few, we have been the recipients of several Broward Education Foundation grants. We increased our magnet programs from one to four: iCan, Information Technology, Communications and Broadcasting, and Computer Engineering. We are a Verizon School that provides hotspots for students. We won the gold and silver volunteer awards for over 15 years as deemed by the state. My most memorable accomplishment was twice being selected as a Principal of the Year finalist.
As of August 31, 2022, I will begin the next chapter of my life. I will always cherish the memories and friendships I have cultivated over the years. I wish all students the best that life has to offer. You are AMAZING!
Wishing you well,
Sonja Braziel, Retiring Principal
Pompano Beach Middle School
