Principal's Message 2018 - 2019

  • Mrs. Trautmann-Lopez, Principal
Welcome to Silver Lakes Middle School – A STEM Magnet School and proud home of the DYNAMIC DOLPHINS! This year we are DIVING DEEPER into learning!

It is an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Here at SLMS, we strive to deliver an academically rigorous curriculum within a personalized learning environment. We are fortunate to be a Digital 6 school with laptop computers and technology-infused curriculum for all sixth-grade students.

Our STEM electives provide a practical, hands-on learning experience to solve real-world problems. As we reimagine the middle school experience, we are proud to offer other elective choices such as Medical Skills, Debate, Yoga, American Sign Language, Drama and Leadership to cultivate student interests and learning. We also have project-based learning being implemented in our science and social studies classes and several high school level courses to choose from for students who want to engage in challenging and accelerated curriculum.

Our athletic programs are award-winning and we have many clubs and organizations for students to join to build character, citizenship, and leadership. Opportunities Industrialization Centers (OIC) also runs a FREE afterschool program, Monday through Friday until 6:15 pm, here at Silver Lakes for those families seeking an extended learning day.

Silver Lakes prides itself on our “family atmosphere” while providing a top-notch education to prepare our students for high school and the post-secondary experience. Our teachers are dedicated, motivated and inspiring – always going the extra mile for our students. We stress the whole child experience and are always striving to enhance the social-emotional learning of everyone on campus. I welcome you to come and visit our school, and see for yourself, the best-kept secret in Broward County!

I am asking that you please read the section on our website regarding our updated safe plan procedures for Silver Lakes. There are new procedures in place and we want everyone to be informed and aware as we move into the 18-19 school year. I appreciate your cooperation and patience with our new safe plan procedures –the safety of our students and staff is the number one priority!

As Dolphins, we stand for commitment, honesty, and respect. Proud to be a Dolphin! Let’s have a great year!

    Alison Trautmann-Lopez, Principal
