Principal's Message 2020 - 2021
Mrs. Alison Trautmann-Lopez
Welcome to Silver Lakes Middle School – A STEM Magnet School and proud home of the DYNAMIC DOLPHINS! This year, our school and staff will "BE THE LIGHT" – serving as your lighthouse and beacon to guide you in personal well-being, academic achievement, athletic competitions and behavioral expectations. We know times are stormy and uncertain right now, so rest assured that we will provide that stability and support for all of our Dolphins and their families.
It is an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Here at SLMS, we strive to deliver an academically rigorous curriculum within a personalized learning environment. Our STEM electives provide a practical, hands-on learning experience to solve real-world problems. We offer other elective choices such as Medical Skills, Debate, Yoga, Global Scholars, Art and Novel Studies to cultivate student interests. We also have several high school level courses to choose from for students who want to engage in challenging and accelerated curriculum.
Our athletic programs are award winning, and we have many clubs and organizations for students to join to build character, citizenship and leadership. Opportunities Industrialization Centers (OIC) also runs a FREE after school program, Monday through Friday until 6:15 pm, on site at Silver Lakes Middle for those families seeking an extended learning day. I am proud to announce that we also offer a dinner program each day after school for students participating in OIC, tutoring programs, clubs or athletics. More information about these programs and how they will be operating, due to COVID-19, will be forthcoming.
Silver Lakes prides itself on our “family atmosphere” while providing a top notch education to prepare our students for high school and the post secondary experience. Our teachers are dedicated, motivated and inspiring – always going the extra mile for our students. Our students have a homeroom class each day which will offer an even more personalized experience, both social emotionally and academically, for all students. I welcome you to come and visit our school, and see for yourself, the best kept secret in Broward County!
Our sixth grade “meet and greet” will be tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 15. Parents and students will have an opportunity to meet key staff members, pick up their student schedule, ask questions, sign up for sports and clubs, meet their teachers and more! Seventh and eighth grade parents and students can pick up their schedules on Monday, August 17. Due to COVID-19 and CDC/District Guidelines, more specific information about these events will be posted shortly - please check back!
Another important date to calendar is our school wide Open House event. The date, time and more about this event will be posted soon. Our School Advisory Council, Forum and PTO are always looking for membership and I encourage you to attend a meeting (in person or virtually) and get involved at SLMS! This will be a big year for us as we have many SMART Bond projects getting ready to launch!
As Dolphins, we stand for commitment, honesty and respect. Come "BE THE LIGHT" and make your splash at Silver Lakes Middle!
Proud to be a Dolphin!
Alison Trautmann-Lopez, Principal
