Principal's Message 2019 - 2020
Mrs. Alison Trautmann-Lopez
Welcome to Silver Lakes Middle School – A STEM Magnet School and proud home of the DYNAMIC DOLPHINS! This year we are striving to RISE – in our academic achievement, athletic competitions and behavioral expectations!
It is an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Here at SLMS, we strive to deliver an academically rigorous curriculum within a personalized learning environment. We are fortunate to be a Digital 6 school with laptop computers and technology infused curriculum for all sixth grade students.
Our STEM electives provide a practical, hands-on learning experience to solve real-world problems. We offer other elective choices such as Medical Skills, Debate, Yoga, Global Scholars, Art and Novel Studies to cultivate student interests and learning. We also have several high school level courses to choose from for students who want to engage in challenging and accelerated curriculum.
Our athletic programs are award winning and we have many clubs and organizations for students to join to build character, citizenship and leadership. Opportunities Industrialization Centers (OIC) also runs a FREE afterschool program, Monday through Friday until 6:15pm, here at Silver Lakes for those families seeking an extended learning day.
Silver Lakes prides itself on our “family atmosphere” while providing a top notch education to prepare our students for high school and the post secondary experience. Our teachers are dedicated, motivated and inspiring – always going the extra mile for our students. This year we are adding a homeroom to our schedule which will offer an even more personalized experience for all students. I welcome you to come and visit our school, and see for yourself, the best kept secret in Broward County!
I am asking that you please read the section on our website regarding our updated safe plan procedures for Silver Lakes Middle. There are new procedures in place and we want everyone to be informed and aware as we move into the 19-20 school year. I appreciate your cooperation and patience with our safe plan procedures –the safety of our students and staff is the number one priority!
Our sixth grade “meet and greet” will be held on Saturday, August 10th from 9-11am. Parents and students will have an opportunity to meet key staff members, pick up their student schedule, ask questions, sign up for sports and clubs and walk the campus to visit classrooms, meet their teachers and more! Seventh and eighth grade parents and students can pick up their schedules on Saturday, August 10th from Noon – 2pm. I hope to see you all there!
Another important date to calendar is our school wide Open House event. This will take place on Thursday, August 29th beginning at 6pm. Our School Advisory Council, Forum and PTO are always looking for membership and I encourage you to attend a meeting and get involved at SLMS!
As Dolphins, we stand for commitment, honesty and respect. Proud to be a Dolphin!
Let’s RISE together!
