Each day, a hot lunch is available to students in the cafeteria. Students may bring lunch from home, but all students are required to eat lunch in the cafeteria with their class. A thirty- minute lunch period is provided for students. Two adults may join your child for lunch on their birthday (or with prior approval by administration for special occasions) only. Please enter the building through the front office to obtain a visitor’s pass. Due to time constraints and business in the cafeteria, please keep student birthdays minimal. We ask that you do not bring any balloons, and you may bring EITHER cookies, cupcakes, donuts, or a healthy snack but no additional items. You can then reserve the grander events for your private time at home and after school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Parents are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to add money to their child’s school meal accounts via the internet using My School Bucks. This website accepts credit cards for payment in the student meal account. Once you register, you are also able to view your child’s meal activity, and you can set up low balance alerts. There is a small processing fee at checkout. You may also pre-pay for your child’s lunch by sending in cash or a check made out to Tropical Elementary.

Breakfast is FREE for all students!

  • Additional a la carte items such as gold fish, Cheez-its, and string chesese are also available for purchase for approximately $.50 - $.75 each.  In addition, students may purchase another entree, such as double chicken nuggets, for an additional charge.

All students will be issued a cafeteria number and a lunch card with a "bar code" on it at the beginning of the school year.  Students must enter their number on a keypad or utilize their lunch card for all cafeteria purchases.  Parents are asked to assist young children in memorizing their cafeteria number.  Please make sure your child remembers lunch money each day or pre-pay in advance.  When student account balances get down to approximately $4.00, cashiers will remind the student to bring in more money to increae their account balance.  If students have forgotten their money or have run their account to zero, as a matter of student well being, they will be permitted to temporarily change one breakfast and one lunch only. This charge must be repaid.  Students will not be able to change again unless this charge has been repaid.

Please help us foster healthy eating habits by packing a healthy lunch.  We strongly discourage soft drinks and heavily sugar-laden sports drinks.  for safety reasons, cans and glass are prohibited.  Please pack bottle water or a healthy, real juice drink.  Candy at school is prohibited unless it is an approved special occasion such as a class party.
