The Principal's Corner
Welcome from the Principal
Welcome to the 2018 – 2019 school year! It is my hope that your summer break has brought with it time to spend with family and friends. The new school year represents a time for new ideas, possibilities and challenges. A special welcome to the incoming 6th graders and their parents as you embark on your journey through middle school. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the returning students and parents as we begin another exciting school year showcasing your Panther Pride!
As in years past, my number one priority has been safety and security for all Seminole students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders. I want you to know we will continue to ensure that protocols are in place to maintain our safe environment.
All students, faculty and staff must wear ID badges while on campus. Students will be provided free badges and lanyards at the beginning of the year. Replacement ID badges and lanyards will cost $5.00.
This year we will be doing monthly Code Yellow/Red drills (lockdowns), along with our monthly fire drills and bi-annual tornado drills. Parents and guardians will be notified about the Code Yellow/Red drills via Parent-Link. All visitors must provide a valid photo ID to enter the premises. Additional security cameras will be placed around the school for added security. Supervision is provided between 7:10 AM and 3:10 PM, and for 30 minutes after school sponsored events.
As you know, any child participating in a sport must have an up-to-date physical exam along with a Parent Permission form and Insurance Statement on file. It is strongly recommended to have these forms on file for any student participating in extra-curricular activities in addition to sports. Please contact the school if you need further information.
The faculty and staff at Seminole are a dedicated group of individuals who all contribute to the success this school has enjoyed through the years. When parents and staff partner together, students have the best chance to succeed at their highest potential. Regular attendance, punctuality and class preparedness are the ingredients to success.
Seminole Middle School is unique in design as it offers an in boundary DECAL program – Division of Enhanced Communication and Law. This program allows advanced and gifted students the opportunity to earn additional high school credits above the credits already offered in math and foreign language. It is designed to expose students to a higher level of rigor as they journey through middle school. We also offer a myriad of electives for all students, so that each student has an opportunity to explore non-Core academic courses.
Outside the classroom, there are many exciting clubs and sporting opportunities. Extra-curricular activities are another key ingredient to success. Research indicates that students who are active in extra-curricular activities are more successful in school.
This year the state exam known as the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) will take place in May 2019. To ensure that all students are prepared, Seminole offers academic enrichment programs such as After School Tutoring and Virtual Camp, just to name a few. I encourage you to look for information regarding these extended learning opportunities that will be sent home with your student starting the 2nd Semester.
The District Code of Student Conduct is available through a link on our website (Seminolemiddle.net) or at the district website at www.Browardschools.com. Please take time now to read it with your student. Also, please complete online Back to School forms at www.browardschools.com/bts.
Please join us at the SAC/SAF and PTA monthly meetings as we work together as a school and community to educate each and every child that attends Seminole Middle School.
