Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. We are excited for a new year with new possibilities and a fresh perspective. Our theme this year is to get “One Percent Better Every Day.” We will do this by diagnosing our strengths and areas in need of growth, setting attainable goals, and continually working to achieve these goals. To achieve these goals, it will take commitment, support and accountability.
This year will be the first year for the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), which will be used to monitor progress at three points during the year. This useful tool will allow our students and staff to track progress to determine what is working and what is not and make changes accordingly.
Our aim is not only to make academic gains, but also for our students to become better young men and young women by improving their interpersonal skills and to be able to navigate the challenges that adolescence brings. Middle School is a critical time in children’s lives, and we look forward to supporting our Sunrise families in any way needed.
I encourage our Falcon students to participate in after-school clubs and activities, try out for our athletic teams, our amazing drama productions and to take advantage of the many great opportunities that we offer at Sunrise Middle School.
This is my sixteenth year in Broward County Public Schools. I began my career as a middle school Language Arts Teacher for seven years and spent the next six-plus years as an Assistant Principal and have served as the Principal of Sunrise Middle School in April, 2020. I am originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I attended Grand Valley State University. My wife Tamara and I have made South Florida our home for the past fifteen years and we have been blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sara and Madison.
I am committed to serving the Sunrise Middle School staff, families, and the community and I look forward to meeting each of you. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns or if you are in need of anything. I encourage you to take an active role in our School Advisory Council (SAC) and to join our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA).
