Principal's Message

  • Principal Ryan Atwood Sunrise MSWe are officially in the second half of the 2021-2022 school year.  Our faculty, staff, and students have been working hard toward the goals that they set at the beginning of the year and we are focused on continuing to soar as we approach FSA and EOC Testing.  Our students have been working hard on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Project-Based Learning (PBL) Lessons and our Electives Department recently celebrated our students' hard work with our Art & Culture night with various performances as well as a gallery walk showcasing student artwork.

As we navigate through the year, our aim at Sunrise Middle is to support our students and families with a well-rounded approach to education, complete with a variety of support systems in place to meet the needs of our students academically as well as emotionally and physically.  We will use a data-driven approach to identify the unique academic needs of our students to strengthen their skills and prepare them to move forward in their academic careers.

Our Falcon Athletic Teams have had an amazing half-year as we earned playoff berths in soccer, basketball and volleyball.  We look for continued success in flag football, track, and field as well as our baseball team.

This is my fifteenth year in Broward County Public Schools.  I began my career as a middle school Language Arts Teacher for seven years and spent the next six-plus years as an Assistant Principal and was appointed as Principal of Sunrise Middle School in April 2020.  I am originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I attended Grand Valley State University. My wife Tamara and I have made South Florida our home for the past fourteen years and we have been blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sara and Madison.

I am committed to serving the Sunrise Middle School staff, families, and the community and I look forward to meeting each of you.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns or if you are in need of anything.  I encourage you to take an active role in our School Advisory Council (SAC) and to join our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA).

I hope to see you soon!

    Sincerely,Ryan AtwoodPrincipal,Sunrise Middle School
