Principal's Message

  • Principal Ryan AtwoodFalcon Family,

We are looking forward to an exciting 23-24 school year as we welcome our incoming 6th graders into the Sunrise Middle School Family.  Over the summer, I have scheduled some availability for school tours for incoming students and families.  If you are interested, please sign up using the link below.

    Sunrise Middle School Campus Tour

Our aim at Sunrise Middle is not only to make academic gains but also for our students to become better young men and young women by improving their interpersonal skills and being able to navigate the challenges that adolescence brings.  Middle School is a critical time in children’s lives, and we look forward to supporting our Sunrise families in any way needed.

I encourage our Falcon students to participate in after-school clubs and activities, try out for our athletic teams, and our amazing drama productions, and to take advantage of the many great opportunities that we offer at Sunrise Middle School.

This will be my 17th year in Broward County Public Schools.  I began my career as a middle school Language Arts Teacher for seven years and spent the next six-plus years as an Assistant Principal and have served as the Principal of Sunrise Middle School in April 2020.  I am originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I attended Grand Valley State University. My wife Tamara and I have made South Florida our home for the past sixteen years and we have been blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sara and Madison.

I am committed to serving the Sunrise Middle School staff, families, and the community and I look forward to meeting each of you.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns or if you are in need of anything.  I encourage you to take an active role in our School Advisory Council (SAC) and to join our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA).

    Sincerely,
    Ryan Atwood
