Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. We are excited for a new year, with new opportunities after a brief, but restful summer break. We are thrilled to share the data below from the 23-24 school year. Our entire Sunrise Middle School was laser focused on improvement, which is evident from the results we achieved together:
English Language Arts (ELA): 59% Proficiency (3-point increase from 22-23)
Math: 56% Proficiency (10-point increase from 22-23)
Science: 50% Proficiency (7-point increase from 22-23)
Civics: 72% Proficiency (5-point increase from 22-23 & highest Civics scores in our school’s history)
Middle School Acceleration: 87% (9-point increase from 22-23)
ELA Learning Gains: 58% (Highest in the past 10 years)
ELA Lowest Quartile Learning Gains: 48% (Highest in the past 10 years)
Math Learning Gains: 62% (Highest in the past 6 years)
Math Lowest Quartile Learning Gains: 54% (Highest in the past 6 years)
Our theme this year is “Run it Back, Job’s Not Finished.” We will track our Assessment Data through the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), which will be used to monitor progress at three points during the year. This useful tool will allow our students and staff to track progress to determine what is working and what is not and make changes accordingly.
Middle School years can be a difficult time for students, as grow from children to young men and young women. We are here to work alongside you through this process. These years are very important to your child’s development.
I encourage our Falcon students to participate in after-school clubs and activities, try out for our athletic teams, our amazing drama productions and to take advantage of the many great opportunities that we offer at Sunrise Middle School.
I am committed to serving the Sunrise Middle School staff, families, and the community and I look forward to meeting each of you. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns or if you need anything. I encourage you to take an active role in our School Advisory Council (SAC) and to join our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA).
I hope to see you soon,
Ryan Atwood
