This pathway introduces and builds the students’ Spanish language skills, promotes cultural awareness, and, if successfully completed, fulfills the high school foreign language requirement.
*We also offer Spanish for Spanish Speakers

Course Progression
6th Grade | Introduction to Spanish In this introductory course, students learn the foundational language skill they will need to be successful in the high school Spanish courses. Students will discover Spanish language, culture, and history. |
7th Grade | Spanish I (HS) Spanish I introduces students to the target language and its culture. The student will develop communicative skills in all 3 modes of communication and cross- cultural understanding. Emphasis is placed on proficient communication in the language. An introduction to reading and writing is also included as well as culture, connections, comparisons, and communities. |
8th Grade | Spanish II (HS) This second high school course reinforces the fundamental skills acquired by the students in Spanish I. The course develops increased listening, speaking, reading, writing skills as well as cultural awareness. Specific content to be covered is a continuation of listening and oral skills acquired in Spanish I. Reading and writing receive more emphasis, while oral communication remains the primary objective. |

Ms. Ruiz
Ms. Ruiz earned her bachelor's degree at Universidad del Turabo Ana G. Mendez University System in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, which is also where she began her teaching career. After 4 years of teaching in Puerto Rico, she moved to florida and has been a teacher of Spanish and ESOL for the past 11 years. This year she will focus solely on making the Spanish Language program at Attucks Middle Amazing!
