Learning Never Closes – We Are Here for You!

    Principal’s Message

    April 2020

First and foremost, we hope these words find you and your loved ones safe and healthy. We miss our students, the interactions we have with them, and the genuine looks in their faces as they learn and grow.

On behalf of all staff members, I thank you for your patience and flexibility as we embark on this new way of teaching and learning, via the District’s Learning Never Closes initiative. As such, let us embrace the challenges ahead as learning opportunities. Furthermore, let us renew our commitment to work collaboratively to strengthen relationships and ensure that our students continue to learn and flourish academically.

Having stated this, we recognize that we will encounter technical difficulties and you may have questions related to remote learning via Canvas, our school District’s learning management system. Consequently, we are very excited to share that the District has created a Canvas 411 for Parents training, demonstrating how to navigate Canvas and access the resources within Canvas. For your convenience, please note that we have placed the Canvas 411 for Parents link on our school website’s homepage banner and also below the Riverland News section. Accordingly, we encourage you to visit www.browardschools.com/riverland to access and view the Canvas 411 for Parents training and also obtain valuable information and resources, such as the Technology Assistance Form, our staff’s hours and contact information, and free Internet offers. You may also call (754) 323-7200 between 7:30 AM and 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, if you prefer to speak to a staff member. Please trust that our staff will review and address your concern(s) within 48 hours.

However, please note that the District has created a Virtual Call Center to address the needs to support working, teaching and learning remotely. The Virtual Call Center is comprised of the District's school-based Microcomputer Technical Specialists. As such, beginning Monday, April 20, 2020, we encourage you to contact the Virtual Call Center at (754) 321-0569, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, for all questions and concerns regarding remote learning.

Moreover, please note that the Attendance Office for Broward County Public Schools is monitoring student engagement by tracking student logins only through the Clever Portal, which is accessed via the single-sign on at sso.browardschools.com. As such, it is critical that students log in through the Clever Portal at sso.browardschools.com to ensure they are recorded in attendance each school day.

Please know that Riverland Elementary School's staff remains committed to providing a high quality education to all students. We thank you in advance for your continued support, patience, and cooperation. We may be socially distant for the time being, but please trust that you are not alone.

As always, we encourage you to do all that you must to ensure that you and your family remain safe and healthy; we encourage you to stay informed by accessing browardschools.com/coronavirus.  Thank you.

    Respectfully,

    Oslay Gil
