Driftwood Middle's vision is to educate the "whole child" by empowering students to develop a positive, happy, healthy lifestyle promoting success.
Driftwood's magnet theme is Health and Wellness. This award-winning curriculum addresses the seven dimensions of wellness (physical, mental, emotional, environmental, social, spiritual, and occupational). It empowers students to develop and promote a positive, happy, healthy lifestyle in every facet of their lives.
Driftwood's goal is to increase student achievement by promoting higher-order thinking through problem-solving, demonstrating positive choices, fostering environmental stewardship, developing strong interpersonal skills, and attaining the knowledge and skills necessary for success. This goal aligns with our vision of promoting success in all facets of our students' lives.
Our objectives are to provide high-quality project-based learning activities that utilize technology and problem-solving techniques, cultivate positive self-images, and encourage effective communication. These objectives empower students to develop a positive, happy, healthy lifestyle that aligns with our vision.
The school's educational activities utilize our onsite training facility to facilitate cardiovascular fitness, strength training, exercise safety, and various exercise techniques to minimize stress. An outdoor ropes course fosters positive relationships through effective communication during team-building challenges. These activities align with our vision by providing a well-equipped location to develop students' physical fitness and interpersonal skills. Core academic classes promote intellectual wellness by encouraging student achievement through high-quality, 21st-century instruction and activities to ensure success. To foster environmental stewardship, students use technology to engage in project-based learning activities to investigate environmental hazards and solutions. In multiple gardens, students integrate STEM components that focus on the benefits of planning, creating, growing, maintaining, and harvesting crops. Through our Health and Life skills courses, students are taught the SPIRE (Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Rational, Emotional) principles, which correlate to the seven dimensions of wellness and align with our vision of educating the whole child.
