Dear Parents and Students,
We are so pleased that you have chosen Davie Elementary School for your child(ren) this school year. This year our theme will be “The Power of Yet!” where students learn the difference between telling themselves, “I’m not good at reading” and “I’m not good at reading yet.”
The start of the school year can be exciting, but also daunting for students as they take on different subjects and learn new concepts sometimes with the answer: “I can’t do this.” “I’m not good at reading.” “I can’t do math.” The power of adding the word “yet” to the end of a negative statement can have a positive effect on all of us! This approach allows students to tell themselves and hopefully learn to believe in a different truth that sounds more like: “I can’t do this yet.” “I’m not good at reading yet.” “I can’t do math yet.” Our goal is to see the look that comes over student’s faces when they first understand the idea of “The Power of Yet!”.” We hope that understanding will stay with them for a lifetime.
We look forward to partnering with you to provide the guidance and support that our young people need to grow and be successful as they continue their educational journey. Remember, They may not be there, YET!
