Magnet Programs
-
The Broward County Public School district is a nationally recognized leader in the quality and diversity of education we offer students. Magnet programs offer educational choices in Broward County Public Schools. While similar courses and programs may be available in comprehensive schools, Magnet programs attract students by offering unique opportunities for in-depth experiences and study in specific areas of interest. Each Magnet Program emphasizes a specialized theme. Our goal is to create educational interests, celebrate cultural and ethnic diversity, and foster student achievement.
This year our Montessori Magnet Program has been recognized by Magnet Schools of America as a 2022 Merit School of Excellence. This prestigious award is given only to outstanding magnet programs across the United States and we are proud to be recognized for our high standards of education and for the uniqueness of our program.

Technology CAPE Academy
The Florida Career and Professional Education (CAPE) Act provides the basis for the establishment of a CAPE Academy at Sunrise Middle School.
Our Technology CAPE Academy is aligned to Professional Industry Standards and students who are enrolled in this program can earn career Industry Certification in Microsoft Office by passing end-of-course exams in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel over the course of 1 - 1.5 years. These courses reinforce academic content by applying curriculum to real-world, workforce readiness, and skills training situations. Many of these skills-training courses provide students with marketable proof of their skills-competency.
The goal of Career & Technical Education at Sunrise Middle School is to prepare ALL our students for post-secondary education and/or a smooth transition into the workplace.

-

The School Board of Broward County is committed to providing settings for education that promote understanding of diversity, tolerance and fair play, so that the positive tenets of a democratic society are reinforced by what students experience in schools. In the Broward County Public Schools, diversity is broadly defined to include students of different genders, of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, of various socioeconomic circumstances, those who speak English as a second language, and those who have exceptional and special needs.
