What is the fastest way to apply?
Online! Not only is your application instantly processed, but you can print a copy of your selections for your records.

What do I need to apply online?
You will need your child’s Broward Schools student number.

The link located on Broward Schools website will not let me apply online.
Broward Schools only accepts applications during specific times of the year. Check if the application window is currently open. If it is and you are still having any difficulty, feel free to call STHS, 754-321-7450 we may be able to assist.

What if my child does not attend a Broward School? How do I apply?
No problem. Reach out to a local school. Inform them that you are interested in applying for a magnet school in Broward. They can create a student number for you. Please note: STHS will not be able to create a student number for you. In addition, you must provide your child's nationally recognized test scores from the prior year. To be eligible for a magnet program, the scores must be equivalent to Florida State Assessment's Level 3 in Reading and Level 3 in Mathematics.

How does the application process work?
In all schools, except the Performing Arts magnet schools, the selection process is done by a random selection of the eligible applicants. Sheridan is based off random selection, also known as a lottery.

How many school/programs selections can I make?
You may only apply to one school per category. You can choose one reassignment school, one magnet school, and one “Nova” school.

How do I know my application is being processed with no problems?
If you submit your application online, you can review the status of your application at any time via the School Choice portal. You can always call STHS and confirm your application. Keep in mind that it may take up to 48 hours for your application to appear. If you submit a paper application, the processing time may take longer.

Will all my choice schools know I’m applying to other schools?
No. Each school only sees the portion of the application that applies to their school.

I don’t reside in the school’s boundaries listed, am I still eligible to apply?
Yes, everyone is eligible to apply for a Magnet program regardless of where they reside. It is important to note that if you are outside of those boundary lines you are NOT eligible for transportation provided by Broward Schools.

Can I change my selections after I process my application online or submit my paper application?
Yes. If you have submitted your application electronically, you are able to go back to your application and change your school choice. If you have sent in a paper application, you will need to call the district office in order to make changes.

Can I send in a paper application and apply online?
No. Only one application (online or printed) will be accepted.

My child was waitlisted at another magnet school, but would like to attend STHS is there anything I can do?
Yes, you can call the district or change your application to Sheridan Technical High School in your School Choice application. Notification of acceptance will not be immediate.

How can I be sure that my online application was received? Will I get a confirmation number?
You are offered the option to print your selections when you apply online.

New Students to Florida What if I am currently in another state and will be moving to the area?
You are still eligible to apply. You will need to contact Broward Schools district office to create a student ID number. In addition, you to provide nationally recognized test scores that your child took in the prior school year. To be eligible for a magnet program, they will need to be equivalent to a level 3 in reading and mathematics to the Florida State Assessment test.

Transportation will my child get transportation if selected?
Students attending STHS are provided district transportation if they live south of Sunrise Boulevard and north of County Line Road. If you live outside the transportation zone, you may still attend STHS. However, you will NOT qualify for district transportation or after school drop off on the activity bus. You will have to provide your own transportation. Bus passes are distributed by Broward County Public Schools 7-10 days before school begins. Bus stops are determined by Broward County School District.

How will I be notified that my child was chosen in the random selection?
You will be contacted by email from both the district and STHS. You can also check your status on school choice at any point in time to check your status.

When will I be notified that my child was accepted into the magnet program I applied to?
Parents are notified of the results of the random selection process based on the date provided by the district. If you are awarded a seat you will also hear from STHS. If you have any additional questions, you can contact STHS.

Are there any exceptions to the random selection process?
Students must meet magnet school entry academic requirements as listed in Policy 5004.1.

If my child is no longer interested in the magnet program, can I transfer him to a different magnet program at another school?
You can apply to a different magnet program during the magnet application window.

Are there other requirements to apply?
At Sheridan Technical High School there are no additional requirements to your application.

Who do I contact if I have a problem applying?
If your problem is system– related (online application issues), or specifically related to the actual application, you can contact STHS first to see if Marisa Santana, Magnet Coordinator can assist.

If there is a change of address during the application process do, I must apply again?
No, however, any correspondence sent to you will only go to the official residence listed on your child’s records for Broward County Public Schools. Any address changes you note on the application cannot be placed into effect by the district office. They can only be made at your child’s present school. If you are accepted to STHS please let us know about any changes to your address immediately.
