    Dear Monarch High School Community,

I am excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Monarch High School. In the time that I have spent preparing for this position and the few days that I have been on campus, I can see that this is an incredible school and community fully prepared to support our phenomenal students and staff. I have been amazed at the outpouring of support from Coconut Creek city officials, the staff and teachers of Monarch, and the community at large. I can see that there are many people who care deeply about the success of our school and want what’s best for those who are a part it.

In the 24 years that I have spent in the School Board of Broward County, I have worked as a social studies teacher, ESE Specialist, assistant principal, and principal. In each of these roles, I have strived to create strong, positive relationships with students and all stakeholders within the community of every school I have served. I am excited to continue this work and get to know Monarch High School as well while working alongside of each of you.

I plan to spend much of my time learning about our school from staff, students, parents, and community members. I hope to find new ways to promote positive relationships with students and parents by making myself visible around campus, attending events, and setting up regular meetings with student and parent groups for their input around issues that affect our campus. I look forward to working with teachers to promote the highest degree of academic integrity, set and achieve goals to increase various factors in student achievement, and maintain a productive atmosphere in all classrooms. I will work with our support staff to create a safe, clean, and supportive environment for all who enter The Castle and do all that we can while they are here to ensure an overall rise in graduation rates and an increase in students being college, career, and life ready.

I hope that everyone has had an incredible summer and we are ready to start the new year with positive energy and an academic focus to ensure all students achieve. Please remember that we have our Freshman Invasion on Monday, August 15th at 12 PM. If you have any questions about the start of the new school year, please reference our website or call 754-322-1400.

    Go Knights!

    James Cecil
