A high school student must have a cumulative 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 unweighted scale, or its equivalent, at the conclusion of each semester to be academically eligible during the next semester
All high school level courses must be counted towards the student’s cumulative GPA, including those taken before the student entered high school.
A student’s academic eligibility is determined by his/her GPA on the first day of each semester. A student’s academic eligibility cannot change during the semester. Any coursework completed throughout the semester will be calculated into the GPA at the conclusion of the semester.
A student cannot be academically eligible if he/she has not attended school and received grades for all courses taken during the previous two consecutive full semesters. For additional academic questions, please contact the Athletic Director at the student’s school of participation.
FHSAA Requirement for Non-Traditional Students
A home education student must be enrolled in the Home Education Program with the school district in which he/she resides.
Where can a home education student participate?
A home education student may participate for his/her home-zoned public school, the public school he/she could choose to attend in accordance with the district’s controlled open enrollment procedures (including a charter or lab school), a private school or a home education cooperative.
What paperwork is required for participation?
A home education student must complete and submit the EL2, EL3, GA4, EL7 and E7V. If the home education student has chosen a public school through the district’s controlled open enrollment procedures, he/she must also complete the EL14.
SPORTS
To participate in a school athletics organization, Home School Education students must complete the Home Education Registration Verification "EL7" form (external link) and send it to the Home School Education office
Schools/programs may require an original form.

A charter school student may only participate in athletics for another school if his/her charter school does NOT offer the sport in which the student wishes to participate.

A special or alternative school student may only participate for another school if his/her special or alternative school is operated by the school district and offers NO athletic program. A private school student may only participate for another school if his/her private school is not a member of the FHSAA, does NOT offer the sport in which he/she wishes to participate and has an enrollment of 125 students or fewer in the corresponding grade levels.
Where can a non-member private school student participate?
A non-member private school student may participate for his/her home-zoned public school or the public school he/she could choose to attend in accordance with the district’s controlled open enrollment procedures (including a charter or lab school).

A non-member private school student must complete and submit the EL2, EL3, GA4, EL12 and E12V. If the non-member private school student has chosen a public school through the district’s controlled open enrollment procedures, he/she must also complete the EL14.
A Florida Virtual School (FLVS) student must be enrolled in the full-time public program. Students enrolled in this program are diploma-seeking. A student enrolled in the FLVS Flex program is considered home education and must be registered as such.
Where can a FLVS student participate?
A FLVS student may participate for his/her home-zoned public school or the public school he/she could choose to attend in accordance with the district’s controlled open enrollment procedures (including a charter or lab school).

A FLVS student must complete and submit the EL2, EL3 and GA4. If the FLVS student has chosen a public school through the district’s controlled open enrollment procedures, he/she must also complete the EL14.
FHSAA requirements for International Students
- J1 Visa: An approved Exchange Agency will write a DS-2019 document for the student’s attendance at a specific school for one year only.
- F1 Visa: These students will have an I-20 document written by a CSIET approved school or school district, allowing them to study at that specific school.
What paperwork is required for participation?
A Youth Exchange Student will be required to provide to the school – proof of age, official transcripts dating back to the student’s 8th year of compulsory education, his/her I-20 (F1) or DS-2019 (J1), an EL2, EL3, and GA4.
Immigrant students are those that have applied for and have been granted a legal status to remain in the US. Examples: Asylum, DACA, and Permanent Residence requests. These students may or may not have a US Visa.
Where can an immigrant student student participate?
A student with a legal status in the US may be eligible to participate at any FHSAA member school.
What paperwork is required for participation?
Immigrant students should possess an I-797 – Notice of Action and/or an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Students with these documents may be eligible for full participation. These students will also need an EL2, EL3, and a GA4.
Other international students are any non-immigrant students on a dependent form of their parent or guardian’s Visa. Examples: R2, L2, E2.
Where can an international student participate?
A student with a dependent Visa may be eligible to participate for any FHSAA member school.
What paperwork is required for participation?
These students will possess an I-94 – Arrival/Departure document. This will give the student’s “Admit Until Date”. If this date has expired, the student will not be eligible. A student on a B1/B2 Tourist Visa will be restricted to sub-varsity participation only. In the case of an expired I-94, a student will need to provide a new, unexpired document. If the student is changing their status in the US, they may be considered an immigrant student for athletic participation purposes.

Students must be on track to graduate and must have 10 of the NCAA-approved core-course credits completed before the start of your seventh semester (senior year), including English, Math, and Science. And must graduate with at least a 2.3 unweighted GPA to be eligible.
