About Our World Music Drumming Program

  • It is the philosophy of the World Music Drumming Curriculum that all members of a drumming ensemble work together in harmony to become a solid performing unit. Performances of drum ensembles and songs from Africa, Latin America, Native American, Asian, Middle Eastern, and the Caribbean are not limited to the classroom setting. Students will understand the needs of each individual member of the ensemble and meet those needs so that they may perform and work as one. The members of the ensemble will develop a greater appreciation of cultures throughout the world and the peoples that culture represents. Students will eliminate their fear and apprehension towards people’s differences and discover their similarities. Students will achieve these means by developing greater respect for his/her self and building self-esteem. Students will develop the following life skills: FOCUS, RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COMPLEMENT, LISTENING, COMMUNICATION, COMMUNITY, and BALANCE. Students will also understand how the concepts and skills taught and learned in World Music develop their learning skills in other academic classes. There will be a constant correlation to reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies.
