The Everglades High School Mathematics Department is comprised of a group of teachers that possess real world experience outside of the mathematics classroom. This real world experience allows our department to show students how mathematics is used in different industries and in every day life.
We offer a variety of classes that meet the needs of our diverse student population. In addition to our core graduation requirement mathematics courses, we also offer AP courses, Statistics courses, and a brand new course this year: Financial Algebra. The AP courses that we offer are Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and Statistics. We also teach the following honors courses: Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. We provide a rigorous curriculum which will prepare our students to be College and Career Ready. The mathematics department uses a plethora of resources to keep students engaged and active throughout the learning process. We believe it is important to use technology to assist with classroom instruction. The use of technology enhances the learning experience for our students. One of our most successful resources is The Khan Academy. This Web-based learning platform is used to supplement instruction in the classroom and also to prepare students for the ACT and SAT tests.Tutoring
We have two different options for tutoring.- Weekly assistance: We provide after school homework assistance offered by Mu Alpha Theta (our Mathematics Honors Society). This tutoring is peer tutoring, but is always supervised by one of our teachers.
- Student Success Camps: We offer FSA tutoring to prepare for the EOC's in Algebra 1 and Geometry. These sessions usually begin in January and will continue until FSA testing begins.
Testing
- Algebra 1: Students must pass the End of Course Assessment (EOC) in Algebra to qualify for graduation. The results of this assessment also count as 30% of a student's year-end grade for the Algebra 1 course. Students who do not pass the Algebra 1 EOC may retake the test either during the Summer or during the subsequent Fall.
- Geometry: Students will take an End of Course Assessment (EOC) at the end of the year that they take Geometry. Results of this exam count as 30% of the student's year-end grade for the Geometry course. Students who enter a Florida school that have already earned credit for Geometry will not need to take the Geometry EOC.
We look forward to working with every student that enters our classrooms and want to ensure that they have the best possible experience possible at Everglades High School. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
