Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Makaziwe Johnson

My name is Makaziwe Johnson, I am the Hospitality and Culinary Arts magnet academy instructor here at Awesome Olsen Middle School. I grew up working in my family-owned West Indian restaurant. It was there that I discovered my love and passion for cooking. After high school, I attended Johnson & Wales University in North Miami, FL, majoring in Culinary Arts. I graduated with an associate degree in Culinary Arts and a bachelor's degree in Food Service Management. After spending 10 years working in the hospitality industry, I decided to go into teaching with hopes of inspiring the youths of today to follow their Culinary / Hospitality aspirations. My specialty is vegan cuisine, which I like to include in my lesson plans. As a student of the Hospitality Magnet academy, you will learn the ins and outs of both the front of the house and back of the house, gardening in our vegetable garden, health cautious cooking techniques, and so much more.
