BROWARD SCHOOLS SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS
The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, a collaborative effort among dozens of reading and literacy foundations, lists summer learning loss as one of the three major obstacles to reading proficiency at the end of 3rd grade. Broward’s 2018 summer literacy resources are centered around providing all students, birth through 12th grade, rich literacy and learning activities to help prevent summer learning loss. As part of the Broward Reads Campaign for Grade Level Reading, BCPS is partnering with the Broward County Library (BCL) to provide families literacy resources for summer learning. Broward students are encouraged to participate in BCL’s “Libraries Rock” Summer Learning program by having their parent or caregiver visit their local public library to register for BCL’s summer learning program.
Parents are encouraged to register for the summer reading program at www.Broward.org/Library/Summer. Through this program, participating students are encouraged to engage in literacy activities and keep track of time spent reading.
The Westglades Middle School PTA is showing its support for the families of the victims at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by raising funds through the sale of "MSD Strong" shirts. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these shirts will go to the Broward Education Foundation to benefit the victims' families and memorial funds. We appreciate your support for those in our community who have been affected by the horrible tragedy.
