    Girls Mentoring Club

The Girls Mentoring Club is a program that meets once a week with girls ages 9-12 to meet the challenges of pre-teens through coordinated, progressive series of high-quality activities and learning experiences to achieve social, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. Our Girls partnered with Calvary Christian Academy juniors and seniors in groups and 1:1 mentoring and enrichment activities as they gained the ability to lead themselves and others on a course of action. A big thank you to Mr and Mrs. Mayo whom served as our immediate contacts and Co-sponsors of the Girls Mentoring Club. Also thanks to Mrs. Mack, our guest and motivational speaker.

    MAY 2019 SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

    WELCOME FROM YOUR PASSIONATE PRINCIPAL

    Strong to the Finish!

    Greetings Parents and Community Members,

Our goal is to finish this school year strong! Our 3rd -5 th graders are completing the FSA Assessments from May 1-8. Following those tests, our K2 nd grades will be completing their End of Year tests.

These assessments are important for deciding promotion to the next grade. Please make sure that your child is on time to school every day, so that they can show what they have learned.

I encourage you to attend our end of year activities (the dates are listed in this newsletter). Additionally, we encourage you follow us on Twitter @mhe1671 throughout the year.

Parents, please continue to have your children read every day. I recommend a minimum of 30 minutes.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for all of your support!

    APRIL NEWSLETTER

    WELCOME FROM YOUR PASSIONATE PRINCIPAL

The Last Quarter: Time for Markham’s Full Court Press

    Greetings Parents and Community Members,

It’s Fourth Quarter! We are in the last quarter of the school year. FSA testing began on April 2 and will continue until May 1-10, 2019 for 3rd through 5th grades. The End of Year exams for Kindergarten through 2nd grades will begin May 21-24, 2019. For the next six weeks, our school will be busy with reviews and testing. It is imperative that our students arrive to school on time and be ready to perform at their highest level of effort.

In addition to assessments, our teachers have planned rigorous and engaging projects for our students to complete during the fourth quarter.

We encourage parents to monitor the academic progress of their children. Parents can utilize Pinnacle to check grades, assignments and attendance on any mobile device.

Did you know we have a Parent Resource room with free materials to help you practice with your child at home? We also have laptops reserved for Parents and Community members to access the internet on campus. Feel free to stop by the school and see Mrs. Bardwell, our School Counselor.

    Sincerely,

    Shedrick Dukes, Ed.S., Principal

    MARCH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

    WELCOME FROM YOUR PASSIONATE PRINCIPAL

    Dear Parents and Community Members,

Happy March! The English Language Arts (ELA), Writing, Math and Science FSA Assessments and the End of Year exams will be administered in April and May. This month serves as our last push to review and practice the skills that students may need to improve, so we call it “Crunch Time”.

You can help your child to be prepared by making sure that they read for at least 30 minutes each night without interruptions from television, video games or background noises. This will help them to build up the stamina that is needed to read long passages that they will see on the assessments.

All grade levels are planning end of the year field trips to celebrate the completion of testing. Please note that students must meet behavior expectations in order to attend off campus trips. If you have any questions about your child’s progress, please contact the school or attend our next SAC meeting on March 12th at 6 PM.

Did you know we have a Community Resource Room with free books, parent guides and videos to help with your child at home? We also have a free Clothing Bank, free Food Bank and Laptops reserved for Parents and Community members to access the internet on campus. Feel free to stop by the school and see Mrs. Bardwell, our School Counselor.

    Sincerely,

    Shedrick Dukes, Ed.S. Principal
