Food and Nutrition Services offer variety and well-balanced nutritious meals at a low cost. School lunches provide an assortment of foods including daily meal salads and fresh fruit. School meals are healthy, meeting the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. By choosing lunch at school, students learn to make healthy choices, reinforcing nutrition education taught in the classroom. Delicious breakfasts are served daily in all Broward County Public schools.

Breakfast is served from 7:00 am until 7:25 am. Students who are walkers or car riders must be in the cafeteria before 7:30 am, if they are eating breakfast.

SUBJECT: NO CHECKS ACCEPTED FOR MEAL SERVICES AFTER APRIL 30, 2019 NOTIFICATION LETTER TO PARENTS
In accordance with year-end procedures, and to ensure that all checks received by the District have adequate time to be processed by the bank prior to the end of the 2018/19 school year, checks will not be accepted as payment for meal services after Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Please take the necessary action to inform teachers, parents, and students that checks will not be accepted after this deadline.
Effective Wednesday, May 1, 2019, The Food and Nutrition Services cannot accept checks as payment for student meals for the remainder of the 2018/19 school year. However, this does not affect on-line payment access at: myschoolbucks.com.
Please send a letter home with your students notifying parents of the above meal services payment information. Attached is a prototype letter that may be used on your school’s letterhead to notify parents of this procedure.

FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEAL BENEFITS
According to the guidelines of the United States Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, parents who would like to apply for free or reduced-price meal benefits for their children, are required to submit a 2017/18 Multi-Child Application for Meals Benefits by the September 20, 2017 deadline. This application should be completed online at http://www.myschoolapps.com The completed online meal application is submitted to Food and Nutrition Services for processing and is usually completed within ten working days. Your family income is used to decide if your child(ren) will receive free or reduced-price meals. Information you give us is safe and is only used to determine your child’s eligibility for this benefit. The processing of the application does not take place at your child(ren)’s school.
Meal benefits carried over from the 2016/17 school year will be terminated on October 4, 2017 for those students who do not have an approved 2017/18 meal application on file at Food and Nutrition Services. Please be mindful of the September 20th deadline as termination of meal benefits for students without an approved application will occur on October 4th, at which point they will not be fed without paying the full price for the meal.
