    A NOTE ABOUT TEXTING COURTESY - I understand and agree with the importance of parents/guardians needing to reach me.     THE WEEK OF FESTIVAL:

    • Drink EXTRA water prior to your performance date to hydrate your voice & stay healthy.
    • Singers avoid all dairy- it causes phlegm which changes your singing voice
    • Go to bed before midnight, or you will get sick! (REST IS A REQUIRED ELEMENT TO HAVE A GREAT PERFORMANCE!) Take your vitamins!
    • Don’t fall behind on classwork; bring it with you on Friday!
    • Come by room 805 on Wednesday Dec 4th to get your t-shirt to wear on Thursday

    **Students MUST wear their CSHS ID at all times during the festival, except when performing!**

     

    TRANSPORTATION & PARKING:

    • Thurs & Fri (Dec 5-6th) students go to our school as normal and go to their first period class at 7:40am. When the busses arrive I will ask the front desk to call for you. We will take a school bus from CSHS to DBHS, and return to CSHS around 5pm. I will send out updates through remind so you will know the moment busses arrive/leave.
    • Saturday (Dec 7th) Parking will be tight. Please be aware of the following: All Car parking is in the NORTH (Holmberg) Lot only. (Please allow judges to park in the east lot). Once parked, enter the school through the red gates that face Pine Island. You must have a wristband to enter.

     

    Chaperones need to arrive at CSHS by 8am (Thurs & Fri) and MSDHS by 7:30am (Sat) to ensure parking and to organize visibility for students to be dropped off.

     

    Thursday & Friday – 12/5 & 12/6

    • Students go to school as normal, arrive to class at 7:40am. When the busses arrive I will ask the front desk to call for you. We will take a school bus that will drop off DBHS. Festival Participants MUST STAY in the Auditorium for the entire day, as school will be continuing on campus both days. Students need to wear CSHS ID badges as well as their Festival ID at all times, except when your school is performing.

     

    Saturday – 12/7

    • Please plan on arriving by 7:45am. Mandatory Timekeeper and Doorkeeper meeting begin at 8:00am. Events start promptly at 9:00am. Please be advised ALL bags are subject to inspection. All Car parking is in the NORTH (Holmberg) Lot only. (Please allow judges to park in the east lot) Once parked, enter the school through the red gates that face Pine Island. You must have a wristband to enter. *Students taking the December 7 SAT are the ONLY exceptions in being able to arrive later. Come as soon as possible.*
    • Closing ceremonies will end around 9:15 (Another good reason to join the remind, I can tell you when you should start heading over to pick up your child).

     

    **Students are not allowed to leave the festival early for any reason, other than an act of God**

     

    Lunch & Dinner:

    • You must pack your lunch, dinner and snacks for the day
    • Concessions available all day, both days – cash only.
    • There are no ATMs on campus.
    • Concessions food is usually pizza and other snacks. They almost ALWAYS run out of pizza, so please don’t depend on this. If you have dietary restrictions, please plan accordingly!

     

    For Parents - Day Passes:

    • Saturday only- $20 per person, in cash with the Troupe Director present. No children are allowed to attend/observe who are not registered participants of the festival.

     

    PERFORMANCE ROOM ETIQUETTE FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS:

    • HAPPY HANDS: At all events, audiences will employ HAPPY HANDS instead of applause. This is to keep from distracting the judges. Failure to abide may result in disqualification of the entire troupe.
    • ELECTRONICS: If ANY electronic device goes off during ANY performance, the owner of the device will LOSE THEIR BADGE & THEIR ADMITTANCE TO ANY ROOM. Flash photography and videotaping is PROHIBITED in ALL performance rooms.
    • DOORS: Doors are not to be opened during a performance. If you arrive at a room too late to watch, you’ll have to wait until the doors are opened between performances. This is to help the performers maintain their focus without interruption.

     

    DRESS CODE: Please label all your bags, lunch boxes, jackets with your names and troupe 0704. Avoid jewelry, hats, clunky shoes/boots, or slides/flip flops. It’s a good idea to bring a light jacket because some rooms can be cold.

     

    Thursday 12/5 – Day 1 of the Festival

    • You will wear the district festival T-shirt paired with your choice of pants, shorts/skirt (appropriate length), leggings (PLEASE make sure leggings are not see-through!) etc. You will wear your choice of shoes (NO SLIDES). Cast members of 10 ways… will change into costume/hair/makeup for the show during your 30 minute dressing room window prior to your performance. Crew members of 10 ways must wear ALL BLACK (this means head to toe solid black).

     

    Friday 12/6 – Day 2 of the Festival –

    • You will wear any CSHS shirt paired with your choice of pants, shorts/skirt (appropriate length), leggings (PLEASE make sure leggings are not see-through!) etc. You will wear your choice of shoes (NO SLIDES). Shirts will be given out on Wednesday Dec 4th during school.

     

    Saturday 12/7 – Day 3 of the Festival –

    • You will wear your troupe polo shirt paired with your choice of pants, shorts/skirts (appropriate length), leggings (PLEASE make sure leggings are not see-through!), etc. Ripped jeans/pants are not ALL performers need to have a solid black shoe (any style) and black socks.

     

    If you have not yet received your troupe polo please see one of our Officers tonight.

     

    WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

    • Your fully charged cell phone & charger (portable chargers are excellent but not required.)
    • A light jacket
    • A refillable water bottle (with your name & troupe 0704 on it)
    • Musical Theatre Categories: Your performance track on your phone/tablet (it must be downloaded, tracks cannot be streamed) – put someone in charge of running a sound check and playing your music. **You must bring a speaker and the appropriate aux cord!**
    • Your design project (costume, makeup, scene, or publicity, playwriting, etc.)
    • Money for concessions (suggest $5-$10 per day)
    • $3 suggested donation for Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS (raffle baskets)

     

    MISC. STUFF TO KNOW:

    • Happy Hands instead of applause
    • You may NOT enter or leave a room during a performance
    • Do not criticize other performances out loud at the festival – you never know who can hear you
    • Move with purpose from room to room – there is not a lot of down time
    • Try to see at least one tech event that isn’t from our troupe
    • Support each other! See as many of our performances as possible
    • Support ALL performers. It’s a Festival. You compete with yourself – but we want EVERYONE to succeed … the better those around you do, the more you learn!
    • PUT YOUR PHONES ON VIBRATE ALL DAY & TAKE OFF YOUR FLASH NOTIFICATION! ALSO, please put phones on airplane mode when in a performance room.

     

    CLOSING CEREMONIES

    • Closing ceremonies are set to begin at 6pm and end around 9:15pm on Saturday. If we have any pieces selected as Best of Show in any category, those students will perform again during Closing Ceremonies.

     

    STATE FESTIVAL DEPOSITS (approx. $700+/-)

    • STATE DEPOSITS ($195) ARE DUE DECEMBER 13th. Online payment only. We will know our scores the night of 12/7. It will take some calculating to determine our top 6-performances/tech events. If we have more superiors than available spots, we will use a variety of factors to help determine which pieces will represent us. State qualifiers will be announced Monday 12/9 via remind text. It is essential that all deposits are paid by Dec. 13th. This is a hard deadline! We are actively seeking donations to drop student costs, but we cannot give more details until we know how many students are going.

     

    *Pieces that qualify for state may only compete if the entire cast is present. Cast changes & removals are not allowed.
