  • ELA PM1 F.A.S.T. Assessment on September 12, 2024

Dear 9th and 10th Grade Families,

We will be administering the FAST PM1 test on Thursday, September 12th to all 9th and 10th grade scholars. Please find the PM1 F.A.S.T.  Letter
This assessment will determine baseline data for ELA teachers to adjust instruction from now until April to aid in student Mastery on PM 3 in May 2024. Parents, you play an important part in helping students give their best performance on these important tests. Even though this assessment is a snapshot—a beginning-of-the-year progress monitoring tool—it is important that our students have every advantage to do their very best. We want our scholars to be as prepared as possible for the PM3 assessment in May 2025.
The PM3 is an ELA graduation requirement for High School. There are many ways in which you can help your high-schooler put his/her best foot forward. The following guidelines can help set our scholars up for success: The night before the test:
    1. Make sure your child goes to bed at a reasonable time the night before the assessment.
    2. Keep your routine as normal as possible.
    3. Be positive and confident in the fact that you know your child will do their best.
    4. Have your high-schooler eat a nutritious breakfast.
    5. The most important thing you can do right before the test is to build confidence about doing his/her very best.
    After the test:
    1. Talk to your child about their feelings about the assessment.
    2. Discuss what was easy and what was hard; discuss what your child learned from the assessment.
    3. Explain that performance on a test does not define him or her as a person. It is just one opportunity to demonstrate learning.

Following the PM1 Assessment and Review Sessions, scholars will transition to follow an adjusted schedule for periods 2-4.
Please note, it is important that your scholar remain at school to receive preparation and continued learning in the period 2-4 classes.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your scholar’s education.

  • From BRACE: Welcome Class of 2025! College Application and Financial Aid Process

    Welcome, Class of 2025!
As you begin your senior year, please remember that the college application and financial aid process is a process, and Ms. Siwek, our BRACE Advisor, is here to help you along the way!  Be sure to take advantage of your Study Hall period and come down to the BRACE College & Career Center and ask questions or to work on your applications if you’d like the support. Ms. Siwek is here to help!   We have new systems to get used to this school year, like FOCUS and XELLO.  Check them both out via CLEVER.  You may also book an appointment with me (find the QR code outside my office) for some one-on-one to review your options (and you are welcome to bring a parent/guardian too if you wish).

    Coming Soon:
    • Starting August 26th through Sept 5th, look for me to visit your Study Hall period to review the college and financial aid application process.  The earliest deadlines to be considered for popular Florida Universities is Oct 15th!
    • Review it all over again and have a family member attend SENIOR NIGHT on Wednesday, September 25th, at 6 PM in the CCHS Auditorium.
    • The Common App and 4-year College Applications are open now for you to get started.  I advise you to go to college websites of interest under "Undergraduate Admissions" & READ.  Be as informed as you can be with colleges of interest.  My expectation is that you will apply to at least one college that you meet their academic profile and can afford (Safety School).  Then, you can certainly apply to your dream school if desired.  And perhaps a few in between.  If your intention is to start at Broward College after graduation, we have an outstanding BC Jumpstart Program in January that will get you all set!
    • All high school credit earned and 12th grade courses in-progress matter.  CCHS is waiting for the schedules to settle.  Updates with any online summer classes or Dual Enrollment courses you have taken or will take in 1st semester will be reflected soon in your transcript.  This may change your Class Rank/GPA, etc.  Soon, you will find your unofficial HS Transcript in XELLO, which will help you complete your college apps.
    • Check out the criteria for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarships.  Seniors will apply after October 1, 2024, and they can still work throughout 12th grade to meet the criteria for their best award.
    • Consider retaking the SAT or taking the ACT for your post-secondary & scholarship goals. National Test Dates attached.  It's within your CollegeBoard and/or ACT account you created that you send scores to colleges officially.   ACT/SAT Test Dates
Tons of information coming your way! I look forward to seeing you soon!

  • Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year at Cooper City High School

Greetings, Cooper City High School Families,

It is with immense excitement and pride that I welcome you to the start of the 2024-2025 school year at Cooper City High School. We are thrilled to embark on this new journey with you and your children for this school year. We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer filled with memorable experiences.

Being part of the Cowboy family is a unique and cherished experience. Each member of our community contributes to our legacy of High Expectations, "A" Tradition of Excellence, and an abiding Cowboy Community Pride. Our amazing scholars, dedicated faculty and staff, engaged parents, and supportive community partners form the heart and soul of Cooper City High School. Our shared values and relationships are the foundation of our success.

Centered around our theme for this academic year, “Ready for the World…. Inspire One, Empower Many,” we honor our “A”chievements while eagerly embracing a bright future for our Cowboy Community. Our commitment to maintaining our Tradition of Excellence remains steadfast, with a focus on providing exceptional academics and fostering a culture of inclusivity and compassion.

As we prepare for the first day of school on Monday, August 12, here are some important reminders to help you and your child start the school year successfully:

    • Student school hours are 7:40 am to 2:40 pm; supervision is provided from 7:10 am to 3:10 pm. Please review the Red (A)/Black(B) day calendar on our website.
    • Student Schedules: Students may access their schedule on FOCUS.  Upon arrival on campus, on the first day of school, students will be greeted by CCHS faculty and staff, and we will assist them with finding their first-period class and answer any questions they may have. First-period teachers will distribute a hard copy of the final/official student schedules in class. A scheduling concern form will be shared with students and posted on our website. Scheduling concerns should be limited to class placement, duplicate classes, and/or missing a required class.
    • FOCUS Parent Portal: Please create a parent portal account to ensure we have the most updated information and to access your student's records.  Instructions are posted on the BCPS website: Information and Technology / Focus - Student Information System
    • Back to School Forms: The yearly Back to School forms are required for each student annually. Parents and guardians will access the forms via FOCUS parent portal. Please complete these before the first day of school.
    • Student IDs are mandatory: Please remember that all students must wear their school ID to gain entrance to our campus. Students who did not pick up their new 2024-2025 IDs this week should bring an ID from last school year (middle school ID for 9th graders), and we will ensure that they receive a new 2024-2025 school ID during the first week of school. Student IDs must be worn to campus daily, and students must keep them on throughout the school day. Students must display them at all times while on campus.
    • Entry Points for Students: As an added layer of security metal detectors are being implemented at our school this year. Metal detectors are now installed in all BCPS high schools at school entry points to screen students and visitors for weapons and other prohibited items. Students must present their ID and pass through the system to be screened. Most can carry their backpacks through the metal detectors without setting off an alert. They do not need to empty their pockets or remove cellphones, keys, loose change, belts or other everyday metal items. Large metal items may trigger an alert. These items include laptops, umbrellas, 3-ring binders and musical instruments. Students must remove those items, place them on an adjacent table for inspection, and retrieve them after they clear the screening process. Students who alert the system when passing through the metal detectors will be screened separately. School staff will be available to support them during this process. It’s a fast and simple process that serves as an added layer of protection for our school.

Parents and guardians, please discuss this new school entry process with your high school student. The screening may result in slight delays at entry, so please allow extra time at arrival and ensure your student never brings weapons or other prohibited items to school. Visit browardschools.com/metaldetectors for more information.

    • Back-to-School Forms: Please review the Code of Student Conduct Handbook and complete the required mandatory forms by accessing the Back-to-School Forms.  The mandatory forms are the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement, the Emergency Contact Information, the Media Release, the Student Housing Questionnaire, and other Opt-Out forms. Create a FOCUS
    • Dress Code: Please review the BCPS Dress Code Policy with your student. I appreciate your support.
    • Breakfast and Lunch: Breakfast is served from 7:05 AM to 7:35 AM. Cooper City High School is happy to announce the Food and Nutrition Service Department will continue to provide all students with FREE breakfast and lunch under the Universal Free Breakfast Program and Universal Free Lunch Program Pilot Year 2 for the 2024-2025 school year. • Proud to be an "A" Rated School, July 2024

Greetings, Cooper City High School Families,

I hope you are all enjoying your summer break. As we gear up for another amazing year at Cooper City High School, I am excited to share some wonderful news. The Florida Department of Education has just released the 2023-2024 school grades, and I am delighted to announce that Cooper City High School has achieved an “A” school grade rating once again. Our Cowboy scholars demonstrated an increase in proficiency across content areas, and I couldn't be prouder of our tireless efforts, motivation, and commitment to accelerating the advancement of our scholars. The CCHS graduation rate is 99%, one of the top in the county. 84% of the scholars scored proficiency in Social Studies. 73% of the scholars scored proficiency in ELA. This is a 10% increase from the previous year. 64% of the scholars made learning gains in the ELA FAST PM3, and 62% of the lowest 25th percentile made learning gains in ELA. 73% of the scholars scored proficient in math, and we led the district in our Algebra 1 scores. This is an 8% increase from the previous year. 71% of the scholars scored proficiency in science.  We are proud to announce that in the graduation class of 2024, 80% of the scholars took an accelerated course, such as AP, AICE Cambridge, and DE. Overall, our acceleration rate increased by 12% from the previous year.
    Image of A school

In addition to our “A” rating, Cooper City High School was recognized earlier this year by U.S. News & World Report as one of the 2024 Best High Schools in the Nation and received the AP School Honor Roll with Access Award from College Board. The Florida Department of Education designated Cooper City High School a School of Excellence. These outstanding accomplishments and prestigious honors are a true reflection of our collective effort and determination to continue to excel. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Cowboy scholars, teachers, staff, administrators, and the support of our parents and guardians. Congratulations

As we eagerly await the start of the new school year, please visit our website and be on the lookout for important updates and parent link communication about the opening of the 2024-2025 school year. We are excited to welcome you back and continue building on our legacy of Tradition, Excellence, and Pride!

      • The table shows the AP courses you might do well in based on your test scores.
      • You’ll also see which of the courses are offered in your school. They’re indicated with a check mark.
      • An X will appear next to any course you’ve already taken, or that isn’t offered at your school.
      • If you select a college major from the menu, you can also view whether each AP course is relevant to that major.

Please visit the link to the 2024-2025 course selection resources on our website: Academic Pathways / Core Courses and Resources

If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Megna, our AP Coordinator.
