Laurie Rich Levinson Biography
Laurie Rich Levinson was elected in 2010, and re-elected in 2014 and 2018, as the District 6 Broward County School Board Member.
PERSONAL: Born and raised in South Florida, she has three children, all of whom attended Broward County Public Schools.
EDUCATIONAL AND PERSONAL BACKGROUND: Laurie Rich Levinson graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Brandeis University. She has been in the business world for over 30 years. Her experience includes owning and operating a business, leading the contract sales division for Florida Carpet Corporation and Harry Rich Corporation, and working as a buyer and manager for Abraham & Straus Department Stores.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: She has been a parent activist in Broward County for over 20 years, involved at the school, area, and district levels. She chaired the Central Area Advisory Council, served as Gifted Advisory Council Corresponding Secretary, and was a member of the District Advisory Council (DAC) and GEM Task Force. She also was a School Advisory Forum (SAF) chair and served on the School Advisory Council (SAC) at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Mrs. Levinson presently represents the School Board on the Board of the Council of the Great City Schools, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Early Childhood Learning Coalition, the Interlocal Agreement Oversight Committee, and as a Federal Legislative Liaison Representative, as well as an alternate State Legislative Liaison Representative. Additionally, she is on the State Board of Take Stock in Children and a JAFCO Children's Ability Center Board Member.
