Valid Teacher's Certificate

  • ATTENTION: 3 Year Temporary Certificate Holders

    If you hold a three-year temporary certificate, you will need to provide evidence to the Certification Department that you have demonstrated Mastery of General Knowledge within twelve months of your initial employment.  This is a state statute and is required for employment for all full-time instructional teaching positions throughout the state of Florida.

    Mastery of General Knowledge may be demonstrated by one of the methods.

    Please review your Statement of Status of Eligibility (the letter sent to you by the Florida Department of Education when you applied for your educator certificate) to determine if you are required to take the exam and for a complete list of requirements. 

    You will need to read and complete all requirements specified on your Official Statement of Status of Eligibility Letter (SOE) from the Department of Education to be eligible for your five-year professional certificate. For information on the SOE, please click on the appropriate link:

    Your specific requirements for the professional certificate may include the following: 

    Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE):

    • The Florida General Knowledge Test (GK)
    • The Professional Knowledge Test (PED)
    • The Subject Area Examination(s) (SAE)


    Professional Education Requirements which may include:

    • Specified educational coursework
    • Completion of a Florida approved Professional Education Competence demonstration system
    • Practical Teaching Experience Requirement 


    You are responsible for maintaining your Florida Educator's Certificate.
