• What happened?

    On March 7, 2021, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) detected a service disruption, which impacted the availability of certain systems within our computer network. When we first became aware of this situation, we commenced an internal investigation. A cybersecurity firm was engaged to assist. We have been working to determine the scope of the incident. Efforts to restore all systems are underway and progressing well.

    We first became aware of the incident on March 7, 2021. At that time, we commenced an internal investigation. A cybersecurity firm was engaged to assist. Upon discovering the incident, we
    have been working to: (1) remediate the affected systems; (2) prevent additional systems from being affected; and (3) return the District’s operations to normal.

  • Has law enforcement been notified?

    We have notified law enforcement about this incident.

  • How is the District investigating this?

    An outside cybersecurity firm has been engaged to help investigate this incident. Since discovering the incident, we have worked to: (1) determine the scope of the incident; (2) remediate the affected systems; and (3) prevent additional systems from being affected.

  • What information was accessed? Does it include student or employee data? Does it include financial or personal data?

    We initiated an extensive investigation with an external cybersecurity firm, which is working to determine the scope of the incident, including what data and information may have been affected. At this point in the investigation, we are not aware of any student or employee personal data that has been compromised as a result of this incident. If the investigation uncovers any compromised personal data, the District will provide appropriate notification to those affected.
