READING OUT-OF-FIELD*

Must complete 120 inservice points or six semester hours of college coursework toward obtaining the Reading Endorsement (or Reading Certification) prior to the end of April in the school year in which you were placed out-of-field. You must continue to complete the required 120 inservice points or six semester hours of out-of-field training each school year until you have added the out-of-field subject to your certificate. You cannot take the subject area exam to satisfy the out-of-field requirement, as 30 semester hours of coursework in Reading is also needed to obtain Reading Certification. If working on the Endorsement, however, a subject area exam is not required and there are a total of five co>For more information, visit the Department of Literacy web site.
*Training Opportunities for ESOL, Gifted, and Reading Endorsements
All requirements necessary to satisfy mandated training for the ESOL, Gifted, and Reading Endorsement are scheduled and offered through the Office of Talent Development.
Once all training is complete you must apply to have the Endorsement added to your certificate.
