BCPS Observes Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day – Friday, February 1, 2019
Broward County Public School (BCPS) will observe Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Friday, February 1, 2019. This year’s theme is Workforce Development for All – dedicated to helping youth understand the force of their service: on their families, on their communities and on the world.
The National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is April 25, 2019, but due to date conflicts with the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) testing periods, the District will celebrate the event before the testing window on February 1. Neighboring school districts (Miami-Dade and Palm Beach) will also observe the event on February 1.
Students who wish to participate by joining their parent or another adult at work should submit a note to their school before Friday, February 1. Students participating in Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day will have an excused absence.
Field Trip (No absence recorded)
“Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” is a District approved field trip and will not be considered an absence when a completed field trip form is returned to the school’s attendance clerk by January 25, 2019. Students may participate in this field trip by attending a workplace with a parent, guardian, adult relative, or adult family friend.
Without a completed field trip form returned by January 25, 2019, school staff will record an absence for the student that does not attend school. If a parent does not call or provide a note, the absence will be unexcused. If a parent provides notice that the child will not be at school that day, school staff may record an excused absence if a pattern of nonattendance has not been established. Parents and students should follow the guidelines in the current Code of Student Conduct booklet concerning pre-approved absences for educational reasons.
