Genuine Explorations, Applications, and Research in Science (GEARS)

  • The Genuine Explorations, Applications, and Research in Science (GEARS) Program is designed to accelerate students in two years through middle grade science. It is highly recommended that incoming sixth grade students qualifying for the GEARS program have scored at a level 4 or 5 in the fifth grade  science, ELA, and mathematics state exams.

In sixth and seventh grades, students will take accelerated science courses that cover three years of science in two years. This allows students to complete the foundational science middle school skills and content, allowing them to enroll in high school science courses in 8th grade. Students are then able to progress more rapidly to college level science courses in high school.
