Understanding NGSSS: The Arts

  • Participants will engage in a four week online course. They will receive in depth training on the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for the Arts. Participants will learn about the five Big Ideas and Enduring Understandings that impact and guide delivery of instruction in new ways. Participants will “unpack” the benchmarks in their content area to develop a deeper understanding of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in the Arts.

    Audience: Art, Music, Dance, and Theatre teachers PreK-12

    Specific Objectives

    Participants will:

    • document implementation of Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in the Arts.

    Evidence that this course content has been transferred to daily instruction might include:

    • will guide critical thinking, communication, and reflection throughout the art production process.
    • will encourage purposeful practice, mastery and refinement of skills and techniques.
    • will encourage curiosity, creativity, and challenge artistic problem solving through adaptation of new and emerging technologies

    Materials

    Access to the DOE NGSSS for the ARTS

    Inservice

    • complete all assignments
    • participate each week in the Discussion Area
    • score at least 80% or higher on post test

    To receive the inservice points, all course requirements must be completed independently by the participant and not plagiarized from any other source or person.

    Prerequisites

    Participants must possess the following computer skills and software to participate in this course:

    • an understanding of your computer’s operating system and software
    • the ability to access the Internet and knowledge of Internet search techniques
    • the ability to download and install files from the Internet
    • an up-to-date antivirus software package
