(BTU Contract Article 25)

Full-time, contracted instructional employees may submit a Transfer Request Form between January 1 - June 30 for the following school year. Such applications shall remain active until the following December 31. After submission of the Transfer Request Form, you will apply for positions via our online application system, Broward County Public Schools careers site. Locations review candidates that applied for the position(s) and schedule interviews with them. 

• No transfer will be considered if the employee does not apply by June 30, with the exception of a hardship transfer.

There are Three Types of Transfers:

REGULAR TRANSFER (TRG)
The hiring principal must consider the transfer, but it is at the principal’s discretion whether or not to interview the candidate. The employee may select up to 10 locations.  

HARDSHIP TRANSFER (THD)
The employee travels 20 miles or more one way via the most direct route to their assigned location, or has a serious medical and/or personal concern that can be substantiated by a Board certified physician or by acceptable written explanation determined by the Superintendent.   It is recommended that you contact the Equal Educational Opportunities/ADA Compliance Department directly if you need an accommodation to perform the duties of your job. 

Employees meeting the criterion may apply for a Hardship Transfer at any time and may be transferred after the start of the school year.

• An employee who meets the “hardship” definition will be guaranteed an interview at one of their choices where a vacancy exists.

GUARANTEED TRANSFER (TGE)
The employee has completed at least the most recent fifteen (15) consecutive years at their current location, without a break in service. The employee may select up to 10 locations.

• If a school has a vacancy in the employee’s desired subject area and the teacher is certified and qualified, the employee is guaranteed the position.
• If the guaranteed transfer declines a job offer, they will no longer be eligible for a guaranteed transfer that school year.
• No school in the District shall be required to accept more than the following number of guaranteed transfers:
  
  
  • Elementary School and ESE Center = 1 guaranteed transfer
  • Middle School = 2 guaranteed transfers
  • High School and Vocational Center = 3 guaranteed transfers

Note: For all transfers, you must be appropriately certified in the desired subject area(s) for the applied position(s).  Teachers with outstanding certification issues, such as out-of-field non-compliance or a designation of special expertise, are not permitted to transfer.
